Darkman II: A Decent Sequel

I must admit that I thought Darkman II: The Return of Durant was a decent sequel compared to the original Darkman in 1990. The movie has a good story and good acting from the characters. Arnold Vosloo does a good job as Darkman and I was pleased to see a continued effort from him in Darkman III: Die Darkman Die which was also good. Give me a shout back about what anyone thinks about this movie and Darkman III because I would like to hear what fans have to say! I really like the Darkman movies since I first saw them!

Was Darkman Two really any good. Yesterday I was at the mall and I saw Darkman in this three-dollar rack, and I had seen it on Encore, so I knew it was a great movie, so I bought it. I wanted to know if Darkman Two was any good because Two and Three looked stupid, and I want to know if they're really worth watching.

Do not be fooled by any rack that you see this movie in or any other Darkman movie for that matter! Darkman (1990) is a great flick and if you like the first one you will get a kick of the second and third one too. They are actually not that bad. Check them out and then give me a shout back!

Yeah the darkman movies are really but to me the 2nd and 3rd movie are more like a tv movie, i didnt like the way they could just change the characters background Liam Neeson was the original Peyton Westlake, you cant just put Larry Drake's face over liams in that lab scene in the intro of 2 and 3 and assume that he was the one, really thats where the other movies failed i reckon. But overall the darkman movies will forever be one of the greatest diformed superheros along side the toxic avenger and the swomp thing.

I thought it was a good movie... Not as good as the first, but no one can expect a straight to video sequel to be. Arnold Vosloo as Darkman/Patyon Westlake did as good a job as could be expected from him. I mean, his best work to date was in The Mummy where he is completely devoid of emotion...

I would have liked to hear Vosloo at least attempt and American accent, though. I thought his native South African accent just didn't fit the character at all, especially considering how well Liam Neeson gave the character life in the original.

But for what it was it was a good film. One that I quite enjoyed, anywyas. Though I don't think it will be one of my movies that recieves constant watching...

I liked it. Larry Drake is great and although Arnold Vosloo is NO Liam Neeson, he did a pretty good job.

I saw the sequels once and will never do it again. If Sam Raimi would've directed a proper sequel to 'Darkman' okay, but I don't like DTV sequels. This movie does everything wrong what it could, I prefer watching the first 'Darkman' over and over again!

What's so reasonable about 2 and 3? The way Robert G Durant lived thru a crash that was impossible to live thru, that Neeson wasn't in them, that Vosloo's accent was horrible, Vosloo had no real rage in either of the sequels or that the movies had no budget and looked like it was made for t.v. It got a 4.5 and 3 got a 4.2 out of 10 so that should tell you something.

I always thought about that too. There should have been no way Durant should or could have lived through the helicopter crash.

You mean in the same way that Westlake is given super human-strength through bad science? You mean in the same way that he's able to perfectly mimic other people's voices by listening to them through a Dictaphone and despite having no lips? These films (yes, including the original) are silly, fun (if tragic and dark) pieces of melodrama. Melodrama.

that Neeson wasn't in them

Eh, I prefer Vosloo in the role. He imbues the character with a sagely weariness that's totally befitting of the character after a few years of living like he has.

that Vosloo's accent was horrible

...as was Neeson's in the original film. Did you seriously not noticing the Irish slipping through every which way? Besides, if an actor can't do an accent well (as Liam couldn't) then I'd prefer them not to bother with it at all. Vosloo made the right choice.

Vosloo had no real rage in either of the sequels

To be completely fair, for the films to move forward at all, I feel like they had to tone down that aspect of the character. I can't at all picture Neeson's Westlake ever being stable enough to work with anyone in finding a breakthrough for synthetic skin. Vosloo made it work well imo.

or that the movies had no budget and looked like it was made for t.v.

I can't argue that. That's indeed a crying shame about the sequels.

It got a 4.5 and 3 got a 4.2 out of 10 so that should tell you something.

I'm sorry but anyone who uses an IMDB rating to argue their point just sounds like a dumbass.

i watched all 3 last week,as i had some recent time off work, so i could catch up with my movie watching hobby,, and at first i was afraid there would be a big drop off after the first,, part because sequels usually suck,, and 2nd no liam neeson,, boy was i wrong,, arnold vosloo, granted wasn't quite as good as liam,, but a very adequate darkman to say the least,, the storyline is what won me over,, how is darkman gonna get durant in this one.

are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

I agree 100% with that.. Universal was on a good path around then and they made some very decent DTV sequels like Darkman 2 and Tremors 2 that coulda been theatrical. Shame their more modern releases are so badbut they were good at one point. If they had given this one 2-5 million more.. it coulda been one of the best DTV action flicks of it's era. It's still very solid though.

This one was actually really surprising on the whole. I expected it to be goofy considering how odd Vosloo acts in the trailer but it's really a enjoyable watch. I honestly liked how he played Peyton here.. Liam was all out on the melodrama route and trying to envoke sympathy but Vosoloo plays him honestly more like a badass. Vosloo plays Peyton like a more matured and open Peyton, it's supposed to be 2 years after the first one so I can honestly see how world weary he is. I love how he fit in the costume, it fit him more. Granted the bits of him wondering around in the daytime was goofy but I liked the scenes of him in the mask in the nighttime.. that's one thing that bugged me about the first one. Why didn't Peyton meet up with his girl at night instead? Really, really dumb on his part lol. By having him go out in the night makes for a lot more fun scenarios and gives the character life. All Liam did was brood the whole time.

Drake was as fun as always as Durrant too. I think all the side people were cast mostly right, Delaney's kind of useless though. All she does is try to be flirty and smokes all.. the damn.. time. There's nothing a bit sexy about that.. it's not 1935 lol.
