The new players all had a specific strength and a specific weakness:

Luis: Fast skater but can't stop
Dwayne: Great puck handler but a show off
Ken: Great figure skater but not very tough
Dean: Strong enforcer but a goon
Julie: Great goalie but she's a girl

Don't think being a girl would necessarily be a weakness, especially since she was a great goalie. You would probably get kicked in the nuts if you suggested that around most women.

Lol that was a joke, in terms of getting playing time being a girl seems to be her weakness

I never took it that way, although I can see that interpretation. I thought Bombay was just loyal to Goldberg because that was his guy. As soon as Julie is introduced, and before he has even seen her play, he says he already has a Goalie,

The movie wants us to think that Julie has a lot to overcome because she's a girl, I was poking fun at how not subtle they were being.

Most of them were rehashes though.

Luis is basically "Spazway" from the first movie. It was never said that Charlie was fast, but he would get on a breakaway, and mess it up.

Dwaynes Puck handling is a wasted opportunity. It never really comes up again, he is just a cowboy caricature.

Ken is basically Tammy and Tommy, but he is a better character.

Dean is probably the best addition. The team needed an enforcer. In the first movie it was Fulton off the ice, but on the ice he didn't know how to skate. So his evolution in this movie seems natural. But at the same time, the Knuckle puck is a rip off of Fultons Gimmick.

I never hear this talked about, but I think Julie was supposed to be based on Manon Rheaume. The first woman to play in an NHL game. She was also a goalie, and she made her debut in 1992, just a few years before this movie.
