You clueless, cultureless retard.

David Lynch didn't make this film, genius.

It's inconsequental what you wrote, because you are a clueless *beep* (Lynch had little or nothing to do with the production, some would say he merely lent his name to the credits. Zwigoff was the main producer)

Crumb is one of the most trenchant artists and social commentators of america. You are pretty stupid not to appreciate a film like this. Your posts reads like you have the intellegence of an eggplant. You are a stupid, myopic, culturally-devoid hick.

Warhol, your a hothead.

reply

He's not a genius in conversation, but in his art and story work.

reply

hes weird.

reply

I think that's it. In fact, I think that would answer quite a few questions about him, down to why he wears funny hats and bow-ties.

Please put some dashes above your sig line so I won't think it's part of your dumb post.

reply

Well he wears those thick perscription glasses, maybe his vision isn't good enough. I bet it's just one of his eccentricities though.

Because Zwigoff was interviewing HIM at the time. And he wanted to do it face-to-face. That's all.

i have not watched the movie....i don't really know about crumb as a person but i think you MAY be right in some points...he's for sure weird and strange (and in a bad way) judging from his work...i think i've seen him in american splendor although i cannot clearly remember...if he is indeed being portrayed in american splendor i didn't have any negative perceptions of him...although he's not the one being examined in splendor anyway...he's one of the artists and co-creator of this comic book (am.splendor)...but in the case of his comic books you're wrong..although i have many more to read from him to get a more spherical view he sure has put out many quality comics from the underground comic scene of the 60's-70's....he SURE did that!!!! and i'm not the only one saying that....if you're not into alternative and underground expressions in comic books and you're more of the crappy mainstream-super colored-glossy-high quality artwork comix i guess you should not even see this movie...this movie is not for you...and his artwork is mighty good to tell you the truth....and furthermore, you can't judge a book by it's cover as they say....just by seeing pics from the movie you can't judge the comic books itself.....hell, these comics are rarer than batman and superman #1 combined to come across

and by the way...this movie has won 12 awards for best documentary in 12 different festivals and only one nomination...that's a hell of a stellar recognition just for a documentary

and him being annoying and weirdo and loser and all the bad things may be right! but who portrayed him as the star of the century anyway???? even the guy writing american splendor accepts that he is weird, anxious, unusual, loser but full of thoughts! just like crumb is full of thoughts and the desire to express his thoughts through comics....that makes them all the more human...they're humans with problems and leading an unconventional and maybe bizarre life...this is a documentary about a guy making comic books and his life...it's a portrayal of a troubled human being...it's not about the super hero of the USA fascist regime (lol)....you should be more relaxed and realize that it wouldn't have any interest if it was portraying a completely happy and succesful family bussinessman....who would watch that?? the intricacies of life make somethnig interesting so as to make us sit and watch

Probably because he hates the music that's on the radio.
Like when that car drives by with hiphop or whatever, he just snaps.

reply

I suspect Mr. Crumb may not drive simply because he is too neurotic to do so.

reply

This movie drove me to a migraine.

"Crumb" is a well done documentary, acknowledged as such, even by those too young to remember when Crumb's comic-book work was all the rage.
(especially in New York & San Francisco).

I was in high school (in NYC) when Crumb's work first surfaced, and with lightning speed, imitators were everywhere. Mostly in the underground media, but most notably (and publicly), grafitti artists all over NYC were copying Crumb's style onto subway trains, exterior walls of buildings, and any public space big enough to paint/sketch on.

Walls of buildings all over the East Village were blanketed with Crumb-like images, so ingrained was the artistic style (and popularity) of his work.

When I entered NYU, students (including me) kept copies of "Mr. Natural" and "Zap" comics tucked into textbooks and notebooks, reading them whenever classes dragged.

His artwork reflected the feelings of the disenfranchised youth of the time, and as such, it infuriated the authority figures in the educational establishment, as well as the government-- both, of which, were frequent targets of Crumb's satirical ethic.

This film not only brought back memories on a more enlightened era, but strictly speaking --as a film-- it's an excellent example of how a documentary should be done.

Why doesn't he drive? Did any of you SEE the glasses he wears?! OK, its a joke, obviously he can see well enough to draw...but perhaps it is a physical limitation of some sort (related to his vision or otherwise) that keeps him from driving.
