Crooklyn is a MASTERPIECE

I worship this film...I am a white man in his thirties who tears up like a little girl every time I watch. I would also consider myself something of a film snob who makes no excuses for this indiscretion.

Spike Lee has proved himself time and time again with little regard by the "Industry", he will be appricated like all great artists after the world catches up with his brilliance.

This film is amazing on many levels. The cinematography is superb, the music is perfect, and the acting is beyond description.

One question:

The dance sequence from Soul Train at the films credits...is it live or is it memory?
i.e. Did Spike have the scene choreographed or is it actual stock footage?
The film quality looks too crisp to actually be from back in the day.
it seems Iike I've heard the answer to this before, but can't recall the answer

This is an excellent movie yet once again a Spike Lee movie gets stiffed in relation to it.s score on IMDB. A great film that will bring back many childhood memories.

I LOVE this movie, dawg! The 70s weren't my time but i wish it was just by watching this movie, it looked so carefree. and it reminded me of my childhood, except it was in different time frame, i was JUST like troy as a kid.

Although this isn't my favourite Spike Lee work (Do The Right Thing is still THE greatest film of all time) I certainly believe it is his most underrated and most overlooked film that just hits the right spot with everything it sets out to achieve. It captures the whole feel of the period beautifully, got one of the best scores in recent memory and gets some wonderful performances from its cast most noteably Zelda Harris who lights up the screen everytime she is present. I finally persuaded my fiance to watch this with me last month and she loved it too, and she doesn't normally like Spike Lee. This is simply another work of genius from the genius

Great movie and story. Its one of my favorites. Like I said on another thread this is a must have in the DVD collection. I was born in '82 so the 70s wasn't my time but this film still reminds me of my childhood. It reminds me of how easy and carefree being a child was. My good ol' days.
I still get teary eyed every time the mom dies and I've seen this movie many times.

This was my life growing up. The only difference was it was my grandmother who passed away. I really agree with you. Spike is truly underrate. I love all of his films. Especially the classic "She's gotta have it". Hey, dhlawrence you're pretty fly for a white guy. Movie buff that is.

I agree 155%. This move is a M-A-S-T-E-R-P-I-E-C-E. I enjoy watching it EVERY SINGLE time I see it, and I was born in 1971 and it reminds me of my childhood even though my formative years were in the 80's. This film is so AUTHENTIC and the acting performances so believable it is one of the FEW movies that I totally feel absorbed in every time I see it...it feels like for 2 hours I am transported back into time and it is a joyous feeling that I hate letting go when the movie ends. The ending still makes me cry and the performance of the ACTRESS that plays Troy is simple PERFECTION. Had Oscar paid attention when this movie first came out, she would have certainly gotten one of those statuettes for her unbelievable realistic and true-to-life performance. Truly Spike Lee's (and Jolie his sister's) finest work, barring only Malcolm X. A joy to watch and I highly recommend it over and over again.
