One stupid move Donna made

was to leave the house and go to a local shelter for abused women! As though Dennis would not know about it! The smart thing to do would have been to get on a bus and get as far away as possible. Take a few different buses and use cash only so he could not trace her. Then find a shelter in one of those far away places, at least for a start.

She made at least two others. He hits her in the side with a full beer can, her sister tells her he'll say anything to get her to return. She goes back?!

Right before she tells Dennis she's pregnant, he let her GO! I would not only have run like the wind, but I never would have told him I was pregnant!

She had at least 2 chances to escape this guy & ignored both. She kept thinking it was only steroids that made him wild. UM NO!

Well, yes, those choices too. But I am talking about once she decided to leave. It was really stupid to stay local.

I do not remember Dennis letting her go. Then again, it has been a while since I saw the movie.

I agree. She should have at LEAST run to another town. And to boot, her husband is not only a cop, but wasn't he a narc? Surely they have access to more 'underground' sources than even most cops! Why didn't she know that or even think about it?

I would have tried screaming my head off if my abusive hubby just walked in one me, while I was at an abused women's center! And what was up with those women just letting him take her?! Cop or not, he had no right.

He did let her go, at least once, before she told him about the pregnancy.
But she didn't go! She acted like a sweet woman, but she was waaaayyy too trusting and naive.
"Be the sweet man I married!" UM, obviously he never WAS THAT MAN!
Where did this woman live before, a convent?

The women at the shelter - they were armed and Dennis was armed. How would they have stopped him from taking her?

reply

They could not have physically stopped him. But she could have refused to go, and if became violent/tried to force her, then they could have called for help.

But it all could have been avoided if she just got on a bus or train and gotten as far away as possible instead of going to a shelter near-by.

reply

I thought the same thing too. lol. He told her to just go. When he said that she should have brought a ticket and moved all the way to a state on the east coast, preferably a big state like NY where it would have been hard to track her. If she wanted to see her sister they should have made some type of arrangement to meet undercover and correspond via mail instead of over the telephone. Or shoot they could have moved to NY together to avoid any hassle.

I thought the center was faraway. IDK.

On their wedding day when he told her to not drink and broke her glass of champagne, when they went to take pictures, she should have said, in front of witnesses, I want an annulment and went to live with someone else.

If a person with multiple personality s threatens to commit suicide, is that a hostage situation

reply

lol yes. Embarrassment would have helped.

reply

This one thing that annoy me when Donna went to her local shelter were it would be easy for Dennis to find her.

reply

That was what I said! She should have taken buses, trains, and gotten as far away as possible. And don't go somewhere he would think to look, like back to where she came from. And if she ever mentioned anything like wanting to live in Florida - don't go there either!

It is so easy to sit in your safe home and judge what she should have done or shouldn’t. Unless you’ve lived in an abusive home or been beaten by your husband you have no place to judge her. Most often in situations like this fear takes over and clouds your thinking.

I have a family member who was murdered by her abusive husband. She was the last person in the world we would have thought to end up in a situation like that. We watched her go from a successful independent woman to a frightened child like state. She would jump and flinch at the slightest noise. She wasn’t stupid either. She fell under the control of a man. It can happen to anyone.
