New movie out, "Loving" reminds me of Corrina, Corrina

So there is a new movie about an interracial marriage coming out called 'Loving',

"Richard and Mildred Loving made history when their fight for the state of Virginia to recognize their interracial marriage made it all the way to the Supreme Court in 1967. Now, their love story is making headlines again, with a screen adaptation of their odyssey, simply titled Loving, garnering rave reviews at Cannes – and generating early Oscar buzz." (People.com)

As soon as I read that, I instantly thought of Corrina, Corrina. I adore this movie. Ray and Whoopi don't seem to be a couple you would pair together but it works. Ray's acting particularly impresses me. I also think Whoopi and Tina Majorino (Molly) are wonderful. So many little looks and gestures that add to the characters and the story. I love seeing Manny and Corrina's relationship grow, as well as Molly becoming friends with Corrina's nieces and nephew and being so sweet and innocent about racial differences, which really highlights how adults pass things on to children like prejudice. (Percy, in particular, is just the best kid ever. Love him!)

The ending was very very sweet, Molly singing a song for her grandmother, helping her through her grief as Corrina helped her. The movie was a good mix of comedy and really serious issues. It all felt very real. My mom passed away when I was younger so I thought it was very accurate dealing with grief and healing.

Agreed. This movie is well put together. I loved the slow development between Manny and Corrina's attraction for one another throughout the film. Many common factors; Molly's affection for Corrina that blossomed, both their spouses were gone, the music they loved and shared with even the same favorite song after which Manny buys for Corrina as a Thank you gift, and even the silly fact that they both smoke. They were very much the same and so comfortable around each other, words and touching became a natural between them and unconsciously not being held back. Forever moving closer, sweet scenes begin when Corrina comments on Manny's wife's photograph lead into her helping with his composing and eventually them playing the piano piece together; their hands together on the keyboard and then Manny reaching over Corrina's has a warm hugging feel to it. One of the tenderest scenes for me is when Manny brings home the record and sees Corrina and Molly resting; Corrina, sitting on his bed, looks so beautiful and sensual in this shot as Manny just stops and admires he. So warm and wonderful, his expression says it all. And also Manny's expression when he gives Corrina the flowers, their meaning has so much more than just a Thank You gift as we discover a little later. And the two crowning touches are when Corrina is fixing Manny's suit collar and they so naturally kiss each other good bye, a surprise to both of them but not unexpected. The other is earlier when they are sitting at the picnic table, Molly doesn't want to drink her milk and Manny says "listen to your mother". Molly is overjoyed at the comment and yet Manny and Corrina both missing it continue their conversation like it never was made. I agree Corrina was incorrect in deciding Molly could skip school without informing Manny, but was nice to see no matter how much they fought, they truly needed and wanted each other.
