Bruce made some loopy career choices around '93-'94

I guess he was worried about being typecast in the Die Hard movies, so he was just casting about for different vehicles.
In 1993 he did Striking Distance, where he's an alcoholic Pittsburgh riverboat cop whose exes are being murdered (in interviews he said he hated the movie, though I kind of enjoy it for the unusual Pittsburgh setting and great character actors like Dennis Farina in supporting roles), then he did this one, which despite an interesting script does verge on mainstream soft porn. Pulp Fiction rescued his career almost as much as it did John Travolta's, a success which was then cemented by the Shyamalan movies.

Right, Pulp Fiction came out right after this movie and this movie was quickly forgotten. Lucky for Bruce.

"as much as it did John Travolta's"

Yeah but that didn't last long. For Willis it was a little bit more effective, even though Travolta is a way better actor.
