Simply a great film.
Whether or not you believe Stump's account of who Ty Cobb was or how the events of said man's life played out, I would question the credibility of any critic that said this was not a very good film.
The first time I saw it was as during a grad school screenwriting course. It was part of the curriculum. To this day, I cannot click past it if it is on cable. It is an incredibly dramatic and engrossing character study of a very complex man. Is the man in the film more fact than fiction? That's for someone else to say, I guess. I just know that this film engages me on an emotional level that most do not yet still manages to be at times very humorous and entertaining. That's not easy to fit into one package.
