Am I the only 1 who thought Rick Derris was a bigger jerk than Randall?

While Randall can be a jerk but at least he is funny and has a sense of humor while Rick on the other hand is a stuck up, conceited jerk who acts like he is better than others, I also find Randall easier to relate than I could with Rick Derris

No, I think everyone feels that way. Randall is the lovable *beep* Rick is the irritating condescending jerk. Plus, we only see Rick for a second, whereas we get an hour and a half to warm up to and understand Randall. That Rick is probably a jerk and that even if he isn't he's never humanized makes us (or at least me) hate him.

No you are definitely NOT the only one! Clearly Rick was picking on Dante like that initially to give him a complex about his body and get him to pay for personal training sessions. Then it became all about impressing that girl and picking up on her.

And after what we learn about Rick over the next few movies, we're not surprised

Rick is the guy who was cool in high school and still thinks he is better than everyone.

Randal is the snarky guy in the back of the classroom who grew up to be the snarky guy who just doesn't care what anyone thinks.

I'd say of the two, Randal has a better grasp on life.

Derris was a muscle head douche.

I agree one of the hockey guys who was manipulating towards Dante to get free Gatorade was a total jerk and I personally couldn't stand him, he didn't strike me as a real friend.

That's pretty much the point. However, keep in mind that Randal is a main character who we're supposed to like. For example, his conversation with Caitlin shows he really does care about Dante and is protective of him. He's also a character that audience members can live vicariously through. He says the things we think at one time or another.

Derris, on the other hand, is a one note cliche. We're not supposed like or care about him. It wouldn't serve any purpose to learn any real facts other than his douchey personality. He could be the only support for his sick mother, for all we know. However, knowing that wouldn't server the storyline.
