Wasn't shooting in B & W more expensive in the 90s?
I thought shooting on B & W film was more expensive, compared to color film back then, yet they say Smith shot on B & W to save money. So did he?

There's lots of ways shooting in black and white can save money. It's not just about the type of film. But it saves money on color correction. It saves money on lighting the set. It saves money on wardrobe (you don't have to worry about replacing garish clothing). It saves money on the set (again, you don't have to worry about repainting an ugly wall).
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
Oh okay. But you still have to dress a set for B & W photography too, as well as color grade for B & W to look good. It's the same amount of work as shooting in color.
