When I was growing up (pre sum of all fears) this was the only one one ever on TV and it was always on.

You’re goddamn right it was. Hah

I've just turned off the tv, as this movie Clear and present danger was on air tonight here in Montreal (in french though).

It's been on TV in the UK several times over the years. In fact, I'm watching it again right now on Film 4. The only drawback with TV screenings is that in the UK, we have a so-called watershed at 21:00. Before this, certain things are restricted, e.g sex, serious violence etc.cannot be shown, which ends up with bits being cut out. For example, I just noticed that the scene where "Landa" kills Moira just disappeared. Her death is confirmed when the housekeeping woman finds Moira dead in the cabin. Also, oddly, a moment is missing during the street ambush where one of the CIA guys is shot whilst trying to get into the car. He bravely tells Ryan to get out of there as he falls back onto the street ... but that's missing without a trace. These are snippets in the scheme of things, and don't really spoil the movie, but when you've seen them before, their omission is a glaring one.

There is real life ... and then there are movies!

It's on EPIX, a high-definition channel, here in the States.

I'm watching this movie now and it sure hasn't aged well. Big box TVs, old box IBM computers. Colombian cartels rather than Mexican. The Colombian dealer looks like a panzy. An unsure Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan. I'm not convinced he has the chops for such a dramatic role in a political thriller like this. I would rate this movie no more than 6 out of 10.

What do you think of Patriot Games?
