This is a damn funny film

I don't understand why this film is so hated. I really must admit that I find this film funny. Lovitz, Stern, Crystal and Palance are all great. Sure, it repeats the territory of the first one, but I reckon it's still a good, fun film. Myabe it's just my sense of humour, but no matter how many times I see this, I still find myself laughing.

Is there no one that shares my view?

Hi - i agree with you! I only saw it for the first time like last year. I loved the original but had low expectations before watching the sequel from what others had said. However, i found the movie very funny and entertaining, revitilising some of the magic from the original. It's a shame Bruno Kirby wasn't in it, but Jon Lovitz as Mitch's brother was quite good. The return of Jack Palance and Daniel Stern was also a treat. It's always hard trying to back up a classic comedy such as this, but I think the sequel was better than average and did nothing to harm it's legacy.

This is my favorite comedy movie. I share your sentiments. I was very confuse at first (and still am) that not many people think this movie is funny.

I admit i thought the same. It's been a long time since I saw the first one, and maybe it was pretty close to the original, but I got to say I really enjoyed it also. I can't understand when there really are so many bad movies out there how this got such a low rating.

Yeah it is good. I like the part when they are all humming in the tunnels when they are looking for the gold and everytime Jon Lovitzs character says eewwww!

reply

thats the theme from the GODFATHER they are humming.. not the main theme but the "incidental music"...

The part where Daniel Stern thought he got bit by a rattlesnake was hilarious!

There is one goof that IMDB doesn't mention...

Mitch's brother claims to be a Godfather devotee, but when Daniel Stern's character asks him who killed Frankie Pentangeli, his response is "the Rosato brothers". Anyone who's ever seen the Godfather Part II knows that the Rosato brothers attempted to kill Pentangeli, but he survived and eventually kills himself.

reply

You are wrong. There is no goof. You unfortunately display a lack of understanding of the Godfather II and of City Slickers II. If you had seen the Godfather II as many times as I have perhaps you would be able to recognise that Daniel Stern's character is quoting Michael Corleone in order to kick start Jon Lovitz's character into doing Hyman Roth's speech.

Michael Corleone asks who killed Frankie Pentangeli and Hyman Roth answers the Rosato brothers. The viewers know that this is not true and later see Frankie commit suicide, but all that is irrelevant. The reference in City Slickers II is simply quotations not genuine answers. Jon Lovitz's character answers AS Hyman Roth. How could you not have realised that?

oh Lord Andre The First - how i love you!

I despise City Slickers 2.

I loved the first and when the second one was released in 1994, I rushed to the theaters. However, I felt it was a pathetic attempt at comedy.

reply

I don't get it either. I have thought this was one of the funniest movies around. As far as I'm concerned it's a classic. Just wish they had made more.

I actually thought this one was funnier than the first on. Maybe its because I saw this one first. However I do consider the first one a better made movie, but II is definately funnier.

I saw both films in the theatre at their releases and enjoyed both and I too prefer II.
