Alittle disappointed

Hello everyone! I just finished watching the new Christy DVD set, I have waited years for it to come out on dvd, was planning on the buying the VHS set for $100.00 but preordered the dvd set. I watched all 19 episodes in a few days and was left alittle disappointed because I always thought that she choose the doctor but it just ended where she didn't choose at all. Does anyone know if that is how the orginial VHS set ended. I know they have new Christy movie series now but I love Kelly Martin and Tyne Daly, so very much prefer the original Christy. ANYONE KNOW?????

The TV series only ended after the first season and unfortunately this did end where she was just there in the middle between David and the Dr. in this huge cliffhanger, however, the new movies do not have Kelly Martin or the guy who played David either, the Dr. from the series is there but yeah according to the new movies she does marry the Dr., in the book she does not choose anyone, it seems that David leaves to find himself whether or not he is intended for the church or not and the book ends with Christy almost dying but then waking up with the Dr. holding her hand and then he smiles, that's it. But I have heard from others that Christy (who is Catherine Marshall's mother, the author fo the book) did marry the Dr. but I am not too sure.

in real life though there was no dr she married the preacher and had a kid but david ended up dying like 10 years or so after they married and christy remarried someone.

I don't really understand. There is a new Christy series?! Where and when can you watch it and or buy it? I was disapointed with the ending of the original series as well. I had no idea who i wanted her to end up with but I wanted a the series to tell us whether it was David or Neil, not a cliffhanger, I am sad. If the new movies don't have Kellie or Randall then it may not even be worth it. I hate it when that happens.

Please note that 'Christy' was a piece of fiction inspired by Catherine Marshall's mother's experiences teaching in the mountains - not a true biography. However - Catherine's own father was a minister...

In the book - Christy woke up to the voice of the Dr and she overhears his confession of love. BUT, that does not mean that she chose or married the doctor. The actual book ending doesn't reveal her choice at all which has always been frustrating for devoted lovers of the book. Therefore, the TV series follows the book in which we're left to decide who she ends up with. However, like most readers, I choose to believe she married the doctor.

There is a 3 disc movie series of the revamped Christy which co-stars Lauren Lee Smith and please take my advice - DON'T BUY IT!!!! Its extrememly disappointing due to the character of Christy being pouty and morose, rather than fiesty and passionate like in the original series.

The new movie series doesn't follow the original series, nor does it pick up from the series cliffhanger. Instead, it re-does the whole romance choice thing. DO NOT buy the series if you love the original series because it's a huge let down.

i bought them because i was so desperate to see how they 'ended' it about 4 years ago. while i was disappointed, it was satisfying enough to me.

i've read the book a few times and while the ending does not exactly answer the 'who does she choose' question, i have always felt that from the way it is written she realises she loves the doctor and chooses him. hmmm, may need to go find the book now though to reread and check!

I found enlightenment! It was behind the sofa!!

I have the collector's edition of the book (because I am a geek like that) and it includes some of Catherine Marshall's husband's notes about the book. Catherine followed almost all of his suggestions--except for the epilogue he suggested. The epilogue, according to what he suggested:

David "gracefully exits" the scene, and Christy lets Dr. MacNeill know she over heard his prayer. Christy and the doctor fall in love and get married and stay in the Cove for a few more years. Then the doctor and Christy leave so that Neil can pursue his eye research.

Since the neither the book nor the TV series (the tv movies were just awful, the new Christy cannot act at all), I've adopted Catherine's husband's version of events ;)
