filmed in Houston

This was filmed in Houston and Galveston for anyone who lives around here. You can see lots of shops around westheimer and the freeway when they filmed on beltway 8 and also 290. They used 290 before it was open to the public. I thought it was funny at the start of the movie that showed gas for $1.05 for top grade gas. Just thought people who lived here might want to see if they recognize anything from 13 years ago

It was laughably obvious it's not Southern California, where it's set.

reply

yes, I love the fact that it was filmed in Houston. lol at the building near Tinsle Town.

With this films budget, it would have been logistically impossible to actually close any of the 5 in Orange or San Diego counties for filming, since the only alternate route, the 15 is a big double back

Thats wierd i just got done watchin the movie on hbo and i live down n houston..

how odd

actually they used the Sam Houston Toll road before it opened, not 290. The Mexican border crossing used one of the toll plazas ( the one before Bush IAH ) My dad's company, Mustang tractor, provided the Caterpillar equipment to help create the police blockade at said "border crossing" so he had some slight inside info on filming locations on the new tollway because the equipment had to be delivered there, but he wouldn't take me because I would have to miss school

My dad was a Harris County's Sheriff's Officer at the time and worked the traffic as an Extra Job.

I have pictures of him shaking hands and smoking with Charlie Sheen and shaking hands with Kristy Swanson.

Well a lot of development has happened around the toll roads since this film opened. There use to be nothing but trees along there, so I wager that where they shot the movie then would be wholey unrecognizable now. Our city changes so much in such a short period of time.

reply

"the toll booth area dressed up like an entrance to Mexico... Some of the background is so full of trees there isn't anywhere like that on the Beltway."

Trees? At the international border? HA, thats funny.

At least in San Diego, the border is just desert and scrub brush.

The Sam Houston tollway is Beltway 8 and they did use parts of 290.

reply

i agree, they did film on 290. as i live in houston, at one part i spotted a sign for an exit for skinner and spring cypress. which is on 290.

reply

Yep 290, and Beltway 8. I believe the neighborhood scenes were shot in River Oaks or West U, and the opening shots at the gas station are shot in Kemah. Right by the boardwalk, actually. I stop in there occasionally. Total crap hole of a gas station, but I love telling people about how Charlie Sheen held up Kristy Swanson with a butterfinger there.
