Sorry, just not for me.

Watched this just now, and was scratching my head all the way through trying to work out why this had ended up on my watchlist (a bit like how he was trying to work out what he's heard about Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer!). I'm still mystified, so I was pleased to see this thread (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109382/board/thread/60925069) which I thought would help me get my head around what I missed - because to be blunt, I found this really tedious. Sadly though, looking through the high points for people on that thread, I checked them off in my mind one by one and they had all failed to leave any impression on me at all. Rather than thinking they were hilarious highlights, for me they stood out as being some of the few moments when something happened at all, but not funny.

The descriptions on that thread of the best scenes were more entertaining than the scenes themselves in my view. All the comments on there are clearly sincere, and the high regard that a lot of people have for the film (here and on other sites) does make me worry a bit that I'm still missing something, but no, on balance, I don't think I am, and what it comes down to is that for me this just doesn't register.

I did like the score, I did like the photography, but I didn't connect with the conceit of the film, so in the end it was like flicking through a photo album with some nice music on in the background. It's not enough, it's not cinema.

My opinion obviously, very pleased for those who got more from it than me. Sometimes I feel a bit left out when I 'don't get' a film that others rave about, but not this time.
