im hoping people would have seen the show to know about the movie heh, that is all! i thought it was good, but the show back in the day was funny. :)

I think that this a really bad movie too but I think that the orginal fantastic four movie that came out in the earily 90's was the worst movie ever made it was so bad that it never made it to video or to the theather it was only avaible on bootleg ,most of which weren't that good of quality. but when the new fantastic four movie came out. it was finally released on dvd for some reason. but the movie overall was super crap in every ascepect of the movie from acting to effects. in fact it was so bad of a movie that calling it super crap is insalting to the words. but if you want a good laugh or you want to see a really bad movie check it out.

I saw like 2 minutes of this movies yesterday, and changed the channel because I felt my intelligence start to drop.

then i bet you turned to gilmore girls or something gay like that and felt better.

reply

No I didn't turn to watch any of those shows. I think I either ended up watching the news or reading a book.

reply

lolz was it catcher in the rye?

reply

everybody saying the movie is the worst ever is only saying it because its in the bottom 100. its not that bad at all

reply

Actually, I have been saying it's the worst movie I'd ever seen for about 8 years now. I came here today to see if other people liked it or not. It doesn't look like I was THAT far off base. I love bad movies, but this one just has NO chance at redemption.

The bad films on my list have absolutely NO redeeming value. "Showgirls" and "Glitter" are so rediculous and over-the-top that they become good in a way. "Glitter" moves toward unintentional camp and actually has a cult following. I picked a movie like "Car 54 Where are You?" because it's the kind of film that you wonder why it got past the written phase and there is hardly a possibility of it EVER acquiring a cult following. It's chock full of has beens who are all overacting as if they think someone important is going to see them and be inspired to resurrect their careers. It's like watching that show, "the Surreal Life", but waaaaay more pathetic. That's my definition of bad. When you feel bad for all who are involved and wonder why they followed through with it.

All in all, it's cool to see that some people rose from the ashes of "CAr 54" and currently have thriving careers.

hey torpedoboy:

can you tell me WHY its so bad ?
if you can go more specific i might get an idea of your angle
cause i honestly don't see why this is so much worse than the average movie. matter of fact there are MANY movies which i really dislike this is not one of them.

Not to be an A-hole or anything, but I don't want to expend any more ink on the subject of why this movie is irredeemably bad. I could rewatch the movie and provide a scene by scene synopsis and critique, but I guess it would be like shoving feces into my nose in order to write an essay on how bad s**t smells.

here's the short version, though.

Maybe part of my disdain lies in the fact that someone thought "Car 54", the obscure as hell television show, was well-known enough to be marketable as a blockbuster film. It's like if someone currently thought it would be really neat to revive "the White Shadow". "Car 54" didn't really seem to KNOW who its audience was supposed to be. Is it young hip apathetic kids or is it people old enough to have remembered the television show? Who knows? It wasn't well articulated enough.

Plus "CAr 54" the tv series was ACTUALLY really funny, in an early 60s way. I think there was an attempt to translate that more wholesome 50s/60s humor and it fell flat for me. I remember the movie droning on and on in parts (making me want to fall asleep). There's only so many jokes you can botch before things just get painful. In comedic terms the film was timed very badly. It was the wrong decade for that kind of humor.

It's interesting though, All this talk about how bad that movie is makes me want to own it. Anything that makes me feel such extreme emotion MUST be interesting on SOME level. I think I'll go to Bestbuy and make that purchase.

It's a bad movie because it will constantly be compared to the TV series. Now in all honesty, the series was just O.K. for it's era. The writing was basic, the sets cheap and a laugh track. It was no accident that Nat Hiken was called "The King Of The Half Hour", this was just an extension of "The Phil Silvers Show" just set in the Bronx. You get the same thing from watching "Barney Miller" in the '70's when Danny Arnold wrote it. It just looks better to the boomer generation who remember it fondly, but if you really take a look it's not really all that. It lasted only 2 seasons and television was changing.
Having said all that, the movie tried to be something it was not; funny. For all the faults that I attribute to Nat Hiken, he WAS at least a good gag writer. It's hard to translate a :30 minute sitcom into a full length movie. Unless you're Zucker, Zucker and Abrahams, and can keep the jokes coming a mile a minute, it just becomes a drag. Al Lewis and Nipsey Russell could'nt recreate the magic from the past, it comes off looking cheap and it's lazy. "Who's The Man" is much more like "Car 54" than the movie because they at least followed the formula. Hollywood sometimes has to understand, YOU CAN'T REINVENT A CLASSIC! Not "Bewitched" or "The Honeymooners" or "Car 54". Some things are best left alone.

I haven't watch the 60s show, but I recently saw this movie on tv.
I don't think is that bad. Maybe is not really really funny, but it's ok.
I kinda liked it. And I have seen LOTS of movies too! Good and bad!
Maybe it is because I missed it in the nineties and it was new for me, and 20 years later, not comparing it to anything, could consider it good?
Not exceptional, but good. Enough to have some popcorn and unplug your mind from reality for one hour and a half?

reply

ok im a few years late but : LOL

reply

I just saw about 2 minutes of it. That's 2 minutes of my life that I want back.

reply

I'm not sure the film was supposed to be anything but bad?
I didn't stick with it long enough to know for sure but the audience was just being hosed.
This couldn't have a well intentioned comedy. They just used the name and hoped they could rip some people off.

I would love to hear the prod/dir just say they tried to do something worhtwhile and then I could believe. But I doubt it.

I remember the tv sitcom it's based on, and it was one of the worst tv shows I've ever seen.
