Try it, you may like it!

I watched this for the first time last night and was surprised there were no board comments here. Not that it's a great classic by any means, but it was solid family entertainment in keeping with the usual high standards of the Hallmark Hall of Fame. I don't have a problem with the fact that it moves slowly at times and is relatively low key because that's the way life is for many of us. The film's biggest assets are the legendary Joanne Woodward and James Garner. Just their seemingly effortless performances, the give and take of two old masters, made it worth watching for me and could serve as a model for many less talented members of their profession. Also worth mentioning are Joyce Van Patten, Paul Winfield and charming cameos by Eileen Heckart and Henry Jones. Well worth checking out if you find it at your local library or video rental store.

I don't think I want to go to the pictures. Oh?Why not? I've seen everything worth seeing.

I tried it, and indeed, I liked it! It's unfortunate it's taken almost three years for someone to respond to your post. This film sat on my shelf for months – actually, I had two copies because I didn't remember buying the first one – and I finally got around to watching it. I was dreading the Hallmark connection, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

Joanne Woodward and James Garner are a natural pair. The story meanders a bit, but that's the point: A long-married couple spending a day together, through a few highs and many lows, and winding up just where they began – with each other. Very strong supporting cast as well.

It's refreshing to watch a fairly recent film without gratuitous profanity and histrionics. 7/10 stars.
