What a gem of a flick..

I've seen this movie three times - literally once every decade since it's release and to me, it only gets better. It has it's flaws but the movie simply allows you to lose yourself within it about as easily as the main character loses himself within the game.

The setting reminds me very much of that which was used in Scream, what with the big houses in a semi-rural locations - the woods work well, especially during the manhunt scenes. The disturbing and dark soundtrack is spot on and memorable well after viewing the movie. Then you have Trickster whose almost sinister presence is paralleled by the comic relief he offers "They could gouge out my eyes.. they could snap off my fingers one by one.. but please, no country western music - every man has his limits." Makes me laugh every time.

Frank Langella was an excellent choice for the subtle and suspicious detective and I loved the use of 'Igor'.

I'll definitely be back to watch it again and now that I have a great copy of it, I won't be waiting another decade to do so!
