5.6???? That's Criminal!

Now maybe it's because I am a huge basketball (both NBA and college) fan, and a beat writer for an east- coast D-1 team. But even if you're not as much a fan, or even know the game that well, how could you possibly give this such a terrible rating?

It's a provocative tale of what every coach needs to do to keep his head above water-- even if that means cheating and lying. I mean it's a true story to so many programs out there (both uncovered or still never busted).

Nolte nails this role. I guess you have to understand the life of a basketball coach (especially college) to get how hard he leveled that role. I mean the perfect, frustrated, down- on- his- luck with recruiting- esque coach.

O' Neill does a great job as the snotty reporter trying his hardest to get a ground- breaking story.

Happy (Can't remember the actor's name and don't feel like clicking to find it ha) is perfect as the shady alumni. Every school in the country has a "friend of the program" like him.

McDonnell wasn't too bad. I wasn't impressed, but she did her job.

Shaq was such a lovable, fun character in this movie (I say his best role). Hardaway, Cousy, etc.. of the NBA players/coaches involved in this movie did a really fine job. You could tell how great they studied the game and who surrounds it during the scenes when they had real head coaches Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), John Calipari (Memphis) etc etc etc scouting Ricky and Butch with Pete Bell. I mean this is exactly what goes on in this world of hoops.

The speech at the end and the way Petey Bell goes out deserves at least a 7 in itself! What a strong, convincing speech.

Does this movie get such a low rating because of the non- american public voting, whom may not understand where this movie is coming from? I really don't understand how a movie like this could get such a lousy rating-- baffles me.

9/10 here, but that's because of my understanding of it. But knowing it or not, this shouldn't get any lower than a seven.

I couldn't agree with you more. This movie is a classic and should have a WAY higher rating than 5.6.

This is one of the top 5 basketball movies from my child hood. I love the story and I agree with you 100%

Really this was not a good enough movie, it did rather poorly at the box office for what is a rather forgettable film.

Its that man again!!

I'm guessing (and this is just a guess) is that the rating for this might go up over time, but you can't be sure. It's not a 10, but 5.6 is certainly too low, as well. What impresses me is that Bob Cousy makes ALL of his free throws in his one big scene, which was probably shot from 4 different angles and re-shot numerous times.
