Anyone know what gym the movie is filmed in?

Anybody recognize the gym?

reply

Some of it was filmed in Case Arena at the Frankfort High School of Frankfort, Indiana (I'm from the area and attended some of these games), other parts were in French Lick, IN, but it's been so long I can't remember which happened where.

reply

what parts? is the main gym filmed there? (by main gym i mean where western plays their home games)

reply

Western plays there home games at Case Arena in Frankfort, Indiana. I am from Frankfort I remember going to the games when they were filming it when I was a little kid.

reply

so that gym is a high school gym?

reply

Yes, I played in it 3 times back in my high school days. Pretty nice gym unless you are playing in t e daytime and you get light shining in your eyes from the windows near the ceiling.

reply

damn the gyms in east ky where i played ball were nothing like that. i am still amazed that it was a high school gym.

reply

Well, that's Indiana for you... Indiana has something like 15 of the 20 largest high school gyms in the country. They are cathedrals here.

Maybe it was in Frankfort, but I'm pretty sure it was shot at Santa Clara University. I think Steve Nash talked about it in an interview when he played there.

reply

It was definately filmed in Frankfort...I was there and saw them film it...As for the rest of the movie i'm not sure where it was filmed at.

reply

Yeah, it was Frankfort. I'm from Lafayette and attended some of the games for the movie, too.

***As for the rest of the movie i'm not sure where it was filmed at.***

I can tell you this: the high school where Coach Bell went to recruit Butch was my high school in Chicago, IL, Mount Carmel. In the movie Butch's team, St. Joseph, was playing against Mt. Carmel. In reality there is an actual St. Joseph in the Chicago suburb of Westchester, IL that was known for basketball. Isiah Thomas went there and both kids from "Hoop Dreams" began high school there.

Mount Carmel's athletes are also featured prominently in another sports movie--"Rudy". Although Rudy went to Joliet Catholic (high school) before Notre Dame, the last practice (as shown in the movie) takes place on the practice field of "old" St. Rita and features a number of Mt. Carmel football players--they even use some of their real names in the movie!

I am 100% positive that the gym was at Frankfort. On one of the walls inside the gym, "Blue Chips-1994" is painted in blue letters.

I was a member of the Dolphin Pep Band. I was asked to play with a group of musicians from the area high schools/colleges. The movie was filmed in Frankfort.

It would make sense, because Rick Petino is at the beginning of this movie. He was coaching at UK back then.

reply

Absolutley in Everett N. Case Arena in Frankfort, Indiana. I was there, they actually played four different games, with "Western" losing 2 of them.

Great basketball action, but the rest of the movie, because of the language, sucked, IMHO.

All of the basketball games that you see being played in the movie were filmed in Frankfort, Indiana at Frankfort Senior High School. The gym is called Case Arena, named after the historic coach, Everett Case. Case left Frankfort to take the head coaching job at North Carolina State back in the day. Everett Case and his NC State teams are labelled as the teams that started the tradition of cutting down the net after a big victory.

The games and practices were shot in Frankfort Senior and Middle School's gyms. The farm shots were in French Lick. The rest were shot on the West Coast.

The video taped game was filmed at Los Angeles Sports Arena where USC plays their games. The locker room scenes and the press conference scenes were filmed at Paramount Studios.

so why are they called the dolphins if they are from indiana? and yeah thats a pretty impressive high school gym, not so much so for college though, im used to going to the dean dome at unc and i remember thinking that the stadium in the movie was kinda small for a top notch college basketball team.

Mostly in Case Arena, Frankfort, Indiana. It is a beautiful gym.

They repainted the halls and court blue and yellow, the school colors are normally blue and white. My dad was a coach there at the time. They handed out blue and yellow t-shirts to the extras that came in for filming, if you didn't wear a blue or yellow t-shirt that day. My family had fun being extras, and I would have been there, if I still lived in Indiana at the time. I heard the cast and crew were very nice.
