One Thing That Bothered Me (Spoiler)

One thing bugged me about the killer's m.o. and motivation. To recap: He was obsessed with this one woman, who then died in an accident and donated her organs. He tracked down the recipients of her organs, killed them, and raped them post-mortem (presumably in order to "have his way" with the object of his obsession, if only indirectly).

My question: Didn't any MEN receive any of her donated organs? Surely out of all the transplants, there had to be some that went to a male recipient...and yet, all of the victims were female. It's as if the filmmakers were saying "Okay, murder, rape, and necrophilia are acceptable topics for a thriller...but only as long as it's done to women."

Maybe because for things like liver or heart the female liver/heart would be too small for most men.

Good point, but nonetheless, don't overthink it dude! Just enjoy the movie! :)

a human body has many organs. maybe men received her spleen, stomach, tissue, etc.

the killer only killed 4 (i think) women. so the eyes, heart, liver and kidneys went to women, but maybe the rest of the organs went to men.

You are absolutly right! And why would all the transplants go to young attractive women? What are the odds? I thought this plot so ridiculous that it almost ruined the movie for me. Far more ridiculous than the girls delayed reaction eyesight gimmick.

Well, the woman that was killed in Wisconsin wasn't exactly a "young attractive woman", as you put it. And the killer mentioned the woman that got the heart was "a fat sow". And if you remember, the girl that was killed in Emma's building didn't receive any donated organs--there was a mix-up with the mailing address.

I had trouble with the plot, too. And I didn't particularly like the way it ended. I really expected her to blow John away in a case of mistaken identity due to her eyes being messed up. I think I could kind of accept the eyes gimmick as someone in, I think, another thread called it, you know, the delayed perception kind of thing. And I could maybe have accepted there having been some sort of connection along the lines of the donated organs causing the murders. But why would the rapes have had to have been thrown in there? Were the women actually raped? It seems to me I remember the detectives having said something about the rapes that possibly indicated they weren't real or something.

If the plot could have made more sense, if the motivations for the fighting between the girl and guy which were supposed to raise sexual tension but which fell a bit flat for me could have been more believable -- I think I saw the movie at about the time it came out and liked it, so maybe stuff like that is fresh at the time but becomes sort of dated later -- it could have been an unforgettable movie. Oh, and I wanted a little more suspense when she blew away the killer, like, you know, she almost blows away the detective by mistake or he rescues her. I wonder if a good remake could be/should be made.

Hmm ... I really missed that "have his way with" aspect. I thought it was an "if I can't have her, nobody else can" kind of obsession that made him furious that she was disperse all over the place, and trying to prevent her organs from going any further. But then I guess that wouldn't really explain the rapes. Or were the rapes meant to throw the cops off?
