I am so glad I am not the only one who remembers this movie was out 10 or so years ago! Same with the money movie, with Queen Latifah. No where does it say it's based on an english movie that (I am sure) was way better.

There are similarities - the protagonists all get cornea transplants and all play violin, but The Eye is a remake of Jian Gui, which is a ghost story.

as i was watching Blink, i was thinking...what the hell? the eye ripped this movie off! but then i read that the eye was adapted from a japanese movie, but maybe the japanese movie ripped off of Blink....i dont know....i think people are very uncreative with movies these days and i am very sick of seeing remakes.
and blink was pretty damn good.

Interesting. I was thinking the same thing all these years later. I have seen both "EYEs" and this definitely came before either. I'm sure the stories could have been from varied sources (Chinese vs. European or American), but they are all so similar. This was much more a suspenseful murder mystery while the "EYEs" were more chiller horror. All three good movies.
