does this movie end with the family out at sea on a boat then they like fall off and flip it over and watch the birds attack people and thats it?
is that this movie or something else i cant remember

Yeah, this is the one. It's the only intersting scene in the movie.

I always thought Hitchcocks original had a strange ending but it didn't stop me watching it many times!

Brilliant review, I couldn't have put a better description of the ending. Actually, you could describe the editing about the same. Many scenes, especially when the birds attacked the villagers, looked like the film ran to the end during the middle of the scene and the director didn't want to start another reel to finish up the scene.

There were many "what the heck" points in this movie.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
