Alternate Ending?

I have the Region 4 DVD which does not have any extras.

I am wondering what was the alternate ending?

Also is there anything really interesting on the director's commentary (on the Region 1 DVD)?

Thanks

I just rented the DVD today. The alternative ending - which is really just a few scenes tacked in and around the current ending - starts at the church where the wedding is supposed to take place. Basicly, a couple of Spanish guys walk up, pull out a couple of guns and shoot at our party of Americans, winging the sailor they'd invited. The terrorists run off, get chased a little ways, then escape. Then we cut to the scene at the lake. That's it. Much as I like the movie, you haven't missed much.

Is pretty much the same, with Stillman and the two leads talking in general terms about the shoot. Sort of interesting (apparently, Stillman was inspired to write the movie afrer seeing An Officer and A Gentlemen while living in Spain), but nothing you need to go out of your way for.

Agreed, I prefered the ending as is. I'd like to think that sailor is alive rather than dead.

Actually,

There is an additional scene, after the terrorist attack. Apparently the Consul and Ramone got wounded. As they are convelescing in the same room in a hospital, Fred decides to keep them from boredon by reading a book on American Sea Power.

I was pretty sure that everyone survived the shooting. Maybe I'm wrong?

I did accidentally kill her father when I went to pick her up for the first date. AWKWARD!

I haven't seen the alternate ending but I have heard the commentary. It's hilarious. Priceless. Don't miss it.

I have the book 'Barcelona & Metropolitan: Tales of Two Cities' with the scripts of both movies in it, written and published by Whit Stillman himself. The alternate scene is described in detail.
