It is one long litany of the violence committed against (and by)the main character, and, to some extent, against the caste from which she comes. It starts with her being married off at age eleven, and the child rape that follows, and continues in that vein. Nonetheless, I never felt that the treatment of her abuse was prurient, which is almost unheard of. A gritty film, with a strong social justice message.

Excellent movie. Not for the faint-hearted.

I totally agree with mbayard and bandofoutsiders.

This movie is not very 'violent' in the classic sense and there's hardly any blood to be seen. However, the 'psychological violence' (for lack of better term) in this movie is very strong. The main character is sold for marriage to an older man by her father at the age of 11 in return for a bike and a cow and gets raped multiple times... and that's just the beginning of her story.
Not for the faint-hearted indeed. However, I strongly recommend this movie to anyone of adequate age.

This woman gets raped repeatedly throughout the movie. It starts as young as when she's 11, and carries well on into her adulthood. She also gets beaten and stripped naked in front of several townspeople quite a few times as well. She does however go through a grace period when she meets a man in a bandit gang whom she falls in love with.
