The State's violence and corruption is underplayed


I was shocked to find out that, while Phoolan Devi was in prison, the State authorized a hysterectomy which was performed without her knowledge or consent.

Maybe Arundhati Roy is right to complain that there is too much emphasis on rape-revenge in this movie and not enough on rampant abuse of power by all segments of society.
