The couple who were at the birth actually allowed her to take the baby home with her, it was very Naive of them. What did they think was going to happen, sure let her spend some time with the baby at the hospital supervised but don't let her walk out of the hospital with it and head off to God knows where.

I agree! But legally they may have had no choice. Some states allow the mother to keep the baby as long as 48hrs before it is handed over to the adoptive parents. Along with a timeline for them to change their minds.
