Alternate versions?

One time I saw this movie on the Sci-Fi channel and it seemed to be a different version from the one I saw on the VHS I had rented. It had a text prologue in the beginning, explaining the background of the movie, why time travel experiments were being conducted, etc. I don't remember much from it, other than it referred to the robots as Advanced Prototype Exploration units. I don't remember if there was any added or deleted footage.

Has anyone else seen this version?
