Not "never", there's a possibility that this will happen, but it's very very slim. He's trying to break it easy and not directly say "I don't know that we ever will", thinks he'll get the metephor since he follows the Angels - of course he takes it litterally.
Of course his indifference while speaking to the judge and (though I'm sure he's trying not to cause more pain I've still got trouble reconciling this) he barely speaks to him on his way out. It's no surprise he turns bitter and loses his faith afterwards, "Great way to show he cared."

Rather disheartening if you're the person believing it and praying for this to happen! Whether it's said sarcastically or not, he believed in it thinking he and his dad would reunite as a family.

Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls it's more democratic.
