so i watched it the other day, and i noticed majority of the music was from the death row artist at the time.
but its all west coast style music, idk was the sound track on deathrow records?
but id expect a movie like this to have NaS,Mobb Deep,Jay-z..that east coast music.

sharejay-z was a studio gangster? you obviously don't know what jay was up to in '94 (see Streets is Watching). Anyway, it is a good point about the soundtrack being west coast but this is no ironical coincidence. Tupac played a major hand in contributing to the soundtrack.

I Agree, I cannot stand any (new skool hip hop in 2000s at all, Especially Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Da Brat, their new stuff is a waste.

sharethe simple answer is that the soundtrack was put out on Death Row Records (although ironically, even though you hear the song throughout the movie, the song Pain by 2Pac is only available as a bonus track on the Cassette version of the soundtrack). what's strange is that, in the club scene (the first time Kyle goes to the club to meet Birdie) they play a Dogg Pound song (Just Doggin') that doesn't appear on the soundtrack at all, but was on the Sunset Park soundtrack. weird sh*t lol

shareI always thought the same thing while watching this movie. There was a lot of west coast music, with some other areas (houston for example) thrown in. It was a great soundtrack, but hardly no east coast. Interesting.

First of all, this was 1994. The only Nas album was his first, Illmatic, which didn't come out until towards the end of the year, long after the movie was made.
Mobb Deep were kid rappers back then, doing songs like "Peer Pressure". They hadn't taken to that "east coast" sound you all are talking about.
Jay-Z was still doing guest spots on Big Daddy Kane albums around this time, Reasonable Doubt came out in '96.
At the time of this movie, the east coast sound was Tribe Called Quest, Leaders of the New School, Wu Tang Clan, Black Moon, Organized Konfusion...and so on. The movie would have had to be very different with that kind of soundtrack.

I'm listening to the soundtrack now and it sound better and better each time. I think the soundtrack worked out just great.
