this film deserves a lot more credit

in my opinion 1942 love story is a timeless classic of bollywood cinema, it stands in the same epic league as films such as bombay, dil se, agneepath, ram lakhan, devdas, lagaan....etc

bollywood cinema has been washed out with trivial films that deal with same issues again and again.

1942 a love story is the definition of true bollywood filmaking, in terms of script, story, songs and cinematogrophy.

i just wish there was more films like it. What do you think?

I saw this movie a very long time ago, and I really liked it. The songs in the movie were all unforgettable. can't wait to see it again.

More credit? I think this film is overrated really. It's so melodramatic in its storytelling style and doesn't focus too much on what the characters go through internally. For example: the first half of the film is mainly about the love story, but what was the love story? He saw her, she saw him, they met in a library.. et voila: they are in love. Throw in a couple of beautiful songs that really don't take their undeveloped love story forward. The second half too, which focuses on the revolution, is more focused on sensation, action and a lot of melodrama rather than telling a convincing story in which characters are like real human being and not just caricatures. I am yet to see a Vidhu Vinod Chopra film that does satisfy me. And I've seen all of his films. 0_0

i agree though that it was melodramatic but it had some good performances by Manisha Koirala, Anupam Kher and Danny Denzongpa and I still think it's better than Chopra's other works.
