Where I feel it should have ended

I was a Weird Science fan back when it first aired. I recently re-watched it on Hulu and I have come to a conclusion. I feel the show should have ended with the Genie baby episode. That was a fine ending. We got to see how much Chett truly cared for Lisa, the extent he would go for her (including giving birth), how much he had grown as a character. And all the characters seemed to be in a satisfying place in their development. Gary and Wyatt were getting ready for collage. It felt right.

That last episode where Gary married an alien, Chett was revealed as being Principal Scampi's son, Wyatt and Lisa as a couple (for some reason, despite her season long developing relationship with the maturing Chett...) it just felt off.

I loved that show. And each episode felt fun, felt good and left me with an "up" feeling. My only complaints ever were the "destruction" of Wyatt's hampster's ghost (That wasn't funny. That was horrible, and that very last episode).

I just felt that that final episode was wrong somehow. They should have ended it with Lisa's baby.

Yeah, ending it at the baby genie episode would have been infinitely preferable. I felt like they were trying to tick people off with that ending. Wyatt and Lisa hooking up was beyond pointless. The whole thing with Scampi was head scratching. The show really hit an irredeemable low with that finale.

The show was canceled in 1998 and there were 7 episodes that did not air while on USA Network the final season of the show. I discovered Weird Science was being shown in reruns on FOX Family Channel back when FOX owned the Family Channel. I happened to catch Weird Science during the day at noon. It was mentioned that when Weird Science went into syndication the final episodes that were supposed to air on USA Network were shown.

In 1998 USA Network was being cleaned up by the programming that they were airing because Barry Dillard wanted to make a profit out of the network that he had purchased. He was a idiot and sold USA Network off to NBC. NBC turned USA Network into its sister network which only showed newer movies, Law and Order, or the rest of the awful programming that NBC could not show on their own network. Even in 1998 USA Network got rid of USA UP ALL NIGHT with Rhonda Shear hosting on Friday nights and on Saturday nights it was hosted by Gilbert Gottfried. That is why 21 years ago the only thing left of USA UP ALL NIGHT were the bumpers, but without the hosts. Gilbert Gottfried was not too happy about being let go a second time by NBC. The first time was when he was on Saturday Night Live and NBC fired Mr. Gottfried.

The reason why I know a lot about USA UP ALL NIGHT is because I used to run a website that was dedicated to USA UP ALL NIGHT and the fans of the show. I had everything up that used to air on USA Network from the 80's up until NBC bought out USA Network and replaced it with crap programming.
