Doctor Who "bookends"

Noticed this on Netflix and thought I'd give the first episode a look. Previously, I'd only seen a couple of random episodes of the show. After then looking through the episode descriptions, I thought I had found some previously unnoticed trivia...

In the first episode that Netflix has, "Songs of Praise", you can see Peter Capaldi (about two decades before he began playing the twelfth Doctor on "Doctor Who") with an incredible mop of hair - it's almost worth watching the episode just for that. In the series finale, "The Vicar in White", Geraldine's bridesmaids are dressed as "Doctor Who" (tenth incarnation as played by David Tennant) and a couple of Daleks.

Thought it cute and worthy of note, if it didn't quite rise to the level of trivia - as an American I can't be sure, but I suspect Peter Capaldi appearances on British TV aren't all that uncommon and I'd be willing to bet that when "Doctor Who" was rebooted in 2005, references to it on other BBC shows weren't either. Finding out that "Songs of Praise" was actually the second episode and not the pilot pretty much sealed it. Not sure why the first episode isn't available on Netflix streaming, but that's another topic.

I had a rewatch of the first VoD episodes recently. It took me a while to work out that Tristram in the "Songs of Praise" episode was Peter Capaldi :). (OT: I'd seen him earlier in "Local Hero" from 1983). I hope you manage to find the other episodes of VoD - there are quite a few guest actors appearing throughout, but I think the two eps you mention are the only ones with Doctor WHO references. :). Enjoy!

Doctor who got refrenced in all kinds of shows, even when it was off air.

I got tickled watching a Christmas episode where Jim makes a Doctor Who knock-knock joke, and then Peter Capaldi shows up at the vicar's door at the end. The floppy mop of hair has calmed down a bit, though.

And the third episode has, at one point, Hugo wearing an outfit that just begged to be fixed a bit, and one of the outcomes might have been Tenth Doctor's blue suit, red tie, overcoat one. Plus in the same episode he's been kissed by Kylie Minogue. :)

Also Alice at one point was excited about making her wedding dress 'with loads of hearts, with a different Doctor Who in each one'. 
