Aren't Athiests pathetic!?

Having never watched the show they come here in droves to vote negatively.

Look at the overall rating of touched by an angel. It is clear, simply
by its Nilson numbers that Touched by an Angel was reasonably
successful (over 9 years...lol)

Lets pray for all idiots and atheists around the world..., let them practice their religion in pease...

and thank God for a
wonderful show like this!

reply

I'm tolerant toward everyone's beliefs BUT athiests can be as judgmental and overbearing with their views as Christians.

Yeah I know, And I used to think of athiests as intellectual, intelligent, etc. BUT the most commun response I've heard them give is "I don't believe in God b/c it's just STUPID!"

Yepp.
I love how this show doesn't preach and preach, but just simply says, "God loves you." It's so sweet.

Logically speaking the concept of God is stupid.

Logically speaking the concept of creation without a creator is stupid.

"Logically speaking the concept of creation without a creator is stupid."

Exactly!

I mean I will admitt, Athiesm AND Creation BOTH have their points that are HARD to understand and sound far-fetched.

I mean yeah it does sound far fetched to say a God who ame out of NOWHERE spoke the universe into existence, I mean where did HE come from? BUT likewise it sounds farfetched to say that everything just BOOMED one day and it just happened and everything went from disorder to order.

But I personally find it EASIER to believe there is some kind of higher being or intelligence, than believing everything just POOF happened one day.

Actually god isn't logical. You can believe in a creator but it is irrational and illogical. The biggest ten religions in the world with a supreme being or beings is primarily derived of a person/persons that spoke to such a force. And were instructed to write down this beings words. You take humanity's propensity for lies, arrogance, hunger for power and mental illness. And you mix it with the proof that is presented by such "holy" books. To believe these religions you would have to accept that some humans can speak to such a being.

But said supreme being doesn't show itself to more humans that would make its existence irrefutable. So you're accepting a book as truth that could have been written by someone with mental illness or someone wanting to be a cult leader and possibly succeeding.

So in the end you have a god you've never seen. And blindly follow a book by someone you never knew. Accepting this specific religion based on your geographical location or parental influence.

And as for what was before the big bang. The simple answer is there isn't enough information at this time. We would need to explore the universe further but we're confined to our solar system as of now. But saying it was some creator is pointless and the same thought process used for centuries. Ancient societies couldn't explain lightning, weather, sun going down, crops dying, etc.

So they just created gods for anything they couldn't explain. Then human sacrifices began to appease these made up gods. Humans didn't have enough information at the time but we do now. And one day we will have further information about the universe. So lets stay away from the simplistic, blind notion of just throwing your hands up and saying it was god. Instead of learning about how it actually happened.

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

Just so all you highly intelligent people know, it's spelled "atheist" and not "athiest." Before you post things about how "stupid" you think they are, you might want to master basic grammar and spelling.

reply

Does it really matter?
Atheists are making fun about Christians all the time. Did you ever really watch the series? Remember what 'Intelligent Design' is standing for?
If you don't find it in german, maybe 'Schöpfungstheorie' might be an easier term to search for. As for politicians using religion for their purposes: There was not one surviving it.
And noone really will ever know where they went to after their death. At least not before taking the last ride him/herself.
Maybe we all should think about that more often. It says 'Love thy neighbour', not hate or defame or diminuish him.

''Logically speaking the concept of creation without a creator is stupid.''

Logically speaking, the concept of a (very human...very Judaeo-Christian human, to be exact) being, who was not born to any parents, creating the whole universe is not very likely. If the universe needs a creator, so does your god, logically.

''Like Atheists are allowed to get all angry and pissy at Christians for talking about God and Jesus, but Atheists are allowed to say whatever blasphemy they want because it's "free speech" or something lame like that. ''

Talk about double standards. Christian fundie churches get tax exemptions so they can spout homophobia and intolerance all they want.

I see no evidence of atheists coming here "in droves" to vote this show down. It has only recieved a total of 1,284 votes, with 175 votes of one (some or all of which may be atheists, or Hindu, or Muslim, or Witches!, or, and here is a thought, people who simply hated the show).

But 175 votes of one is hardly "droves" of atheists, or "droves" of anyone at all. Nobody seems to care enough to vote at all.

I am an atheist, and I like this show enough to give it something between 6-8, simply because of the positive messages it comes out with. I do not think it is even overtly religious - it is completely non-denominational, and delivers "feel good" story lines, while bringing out the very best in the protaginists in the show, and showing how with a little help, people are strong enough to rise out of adversity.

These are morality tales, and can have equal strength in religious and secular stories, and can have the same results.

It can be a bit twee at times, which is why I would not go higher than an eight, and would be more inclined to give it a seven.

And BTW, its atheists, not Athiests.

atheism is a religion as much as not-collecting stamps is a hobby.

reply

True. It's a basic belief, not a religion.

reply

It's the lack of belief in deities, nothing more. Atheism is solely the lack of belief in deities. It's not a belief.

You can believe that no deities exist but you are only an atheist because of the lack of belief in deities. You can't believe no deities exist but don't lack belief in deities.

reply

Calling atheists pathetic and idiots. Quite the nice Christian understanding you've got there, really sweet!

reply

Very true rockmail. They just have not seen the truth yet. You don't hate a child and call them stupid because they have not learned to walk or talk yet. You don't hate atheists because they have not seen the Lord or know Him. You pray for them. No wonder they can't stand Christians.

reply

What makes you think that atheists cannot stand Christians?

Norm

reply

I think what they cannot tolerate is that Christians talk of God and His love, but they live different way. They can be hateful and spiteful. And I am not talking about tolerating sin; the Word says to hate the sin, but love the sinner. Too often we as Christians hate the sin and the sinner. The Bible says that people shall know us by our love for each other. My prayers is that that will manifest itself in our lives. I have a friend who is an atheist, I am a born again Christian. I truthfully tell him what I believe and he is honest back. Love is always the answer.

reply

''I think what they cannot tolerate is that Christians talk of God and His love, but they live different way.''

No, I think most just do not believe in your god (or, being atheist, any god), and the ones who do hate Christians/Christianity is not due to ''talk of His love, but they live differently'', most hate the way the Christian idea of ''love'' is not very loving and is more akin to what most people would view as ''hatred'' or intolerance.

''They can be hateful and spiteful.''

And Christians can't be? Ridiculous. Though you disguise hatred as ''love'' (or ''hating the sin not the sinner''), that doesn't mean that you are not hateful. If you call a club a ''spade'', it is still a club. If you call hate and bigotry ''love'', it is still hatred and bigotry.

Amen!! :p

Atheists are no more "pathetic" than any one else on this earth. I'm so tired of Christians placing themselves upon pedestals. Judge not lest ye be judged. Which, actually, is a bible passage:

Matthew 7:2-5 (NIV)

2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

I've known many atheists who do more good works and are kinder to people than the religious people I know.

Anyway, I'm going to cut myself off before I go into a tangent about the issues with the Church, haha.

Just wanted to say that I agree with you! Don't blame the upset atheists, blame the hypocritical Christians.

Is that braised?

reply

That's a well-quoted Bible quote. We can't judge the people themselves and only judge actions based on the faith God gives us (a grace which we certainly couldn't have on our own).

Let's be a little (a lot) kinder to those with whom we disagree on faith-matters.

Thank you! I had forgotten what I had written, and I'm glad I still agree with myself. :) It all goes back to "Do everything out of love" and the whole concept of hate the sin and not the sinner. For we are all sinners.

And, once, again, I'm going to stop myself because I could talk about religious things for hours. haha :)

Is that braised?

reply

Please don't patronise me or talk about me and other non-believers as though we are children.

reply

alright, then let me call you my dear chap, better?
in fact, many atheists are hateful about christians because they need someone to diminuish. because christians - as well as many other religious folks, actually have a greater perspective about what should happen after the ever so scaring death. even wiccans believe in the great circle, the great sea of energy into which their soul will return after death.
there is no such idea among atheist folks. many of them seek reasons in the past to suppress believers to any religion to tell about their belief, which is pretty poor and sad.
but besides that i would not judge them as pathetic. aforementioned statements are pure observations for about 40 years i am now - consciously - on this earth.

dont have a tv and dont need it.

reply

One I am a religious person, well actually a free spirit and I don't think Atheists are idiots at all. If anything they keep the evil forces from winning LOL.

Two who told you they are idiots? They just can't find reason to believe in a one all and powerful being but that doesn't make them bad or evil. They just chose not to believe in what you believe in or in what I belive in.

Three, you should know that judging people is a sin so knock it off, how would you feel if an Atheists thought that all christians like you are idiots?

Finally; Peace is spelled this way not pease.

reply

just would like to say.. that we christians need to remember this: "Thus said the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the LORD." Jeremiah 17:5 meaning that just because someone, either a christian or catholic.. behaves hypocritically, does not mean that we should associate this behavior with the loving God.. for it is true that we reflect Jesus... it does not mean that we do this 100 percent of the time... we are all human and therefore, we are fallible .. thats why it is important to have an individual reltionship with God, not always relying on other "mature" Christians or other church members to help you with your walk with Christ... that way, if they make a mistake.. you do not need and you are not supposed to blame God or hold a grudge on Him.. He is not responsible for our actions.. And as for corruption entering the church... all of that is prophesied in the bible when it talks about the apostasy ... "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.” Thessalonians 2:3.... meaning that in the last days.. they will be "Christians" who think that they are living for Christ.. but they are actually dead in the spirit..

btw.. calling atheists pathetic will not bring them closer to God.. if anything they ( sorry if im over generalizing) will definitely stay away from anything involving Christians.. religion etc.. plus. it gives us Christians who are actually trying to be a reflection of Jesus and trying to live a holy life a bad name.. gee.. thanks..
