the 'predator' episode

is it just me or was there an episode where hogans buddy was all irritable and had to go back to an island from his past to confront some thing that was blatantly a rip of the predator creature.... an invisble thing in the jungle

Yeah. I dunno if it was intended to be an obvious rip-off or if they thought they would get away with thinking it was an original idea. I guess the premises of it would be that the show is aimed at kids, and they wouldnt be old enough to have seen Predator yet, so for some reason they ripped it off.

Tho it could be a number of reasons.. but there only guesses
- Hogans pr someone involved with TIP is a big fan of Predator or they wanted Hogan to be just like Arnie.

- The team doing the CGI and effects and what not developed the technology to do an effect like that of the invisable predator but couldnt think of a decent plot to put it into.

- Maybe the writer was not convinced the Predator was dead and the goverment put it on a deserted island and covered it up.

- Maybe the producer wanted to do a show on an island and it was cheaper to rip off Predator then rip off Gilligans Island.

- The producer was too busy forming Baywatch in his head and just let any old script of garbage get the green light in order to sabatoage the show and make sure it got cancelled so he could ditch the boat and get more chicks in bikinis.

Actually Hogan and Brubaker had to rescue a Japanese Girl from the island, a rare plant collector who had gone to the island to find a rare orchid. Brubaker's problem was that the girls Father was a high ranking officer in the Japanese Military and they had come up against each other in some conflict back when Brubaker was still a Navy Seal. The Girl's Father actually executed Brubaker's brother Paul right in front of him. When Brubaker actually had the chance to gain revenge when Hogan broke him out of the Prison Camp, Brubaker couldn't shoot him when he saw the daughter's photo hanging around his neck. Then when they tried to escape the Prison Camp, Hogan took a bullet to save Brubaker. All these memories and horrors were stirred up in Brubaker when they went to meet the 'Flower Man' about the rescue mission. I remember at the end of the episode when Hogan and Brubaker had nuked the Predator using Super-Hyper Speed or something and had safely returned the girl, the Flower Man named the rare orchid Paul, after Brubaker's brother.

come to think of it TV shows often rip off movies..
quantum leap did it with ghost
alien nation ripped off sea of love

but thanks for the detailed breakdown of the story and the theories regarding the creation of the episode :)

That super speed thing was like, a gimmick they used EVERY episode and it looked like crap. rofl.

Vietnamese, Chris, not Japanese. The "conflict" you refer to was the Vietnam War. Good episode, and nothing like Predator. Where in Predator was the monster defeated by banjo-playing?!

So if I make a movie about a great white shark that kills people who swim in the ocean and have the shark get killed by a banjo then it's not like "Jaws"?

I would say that an episode that involves elite commandos fighting a monster with high-tech weapons in the jungle bares at least a small resemblence to "Predator".

I TOTALLY remember that, I was going to post a topic asking if this even happened and I didn't confuse Hulk Hogan with Jesse Ventura or anything, but I really do remember this... I think it was some kind of crazy crossover..

That's actually what I just got on here to check out, as that was the only thing of Thunder in Paradise I've ever seen. So, does anybody actually know which episode it was? Actually, I thought it was one of the movies, but none of their plots sounded similar to the Predator-ish episode.
Anybody want to steer me in the right direction?

The episode is 1x11 "Nature Of The Beast". Spence and Bru are hired by a Vietnamese man to find his missing daughter. He turns out to be the man who killed Bru's brother, and tortured Bru himself back during the war. The 'Predator' beast that they confront is a metaphor - and also a big growly invisible alien monster, because just being a metaphor would be dull. ;)
