What I like about Thunder in Paradise is the triple-meaning of it's title. First, it's meaning can be taken literally. There is a boat named "Thunder" in a beach resort (paradise). Second, we see that there is danger (thunder) brewing in this paradise, in the form of an evil uncle who plans to steal the hotel, and a band of thieves who stop at nothing to get a valuable necklace. Third, the movie turns into a story about love, and the troubles (thunder) that can arise in a relationship (paradise) (especially a faked relationship).
And that's just the title. We all know the cleverness did not stop there. This show was a comedy action. I was really worried about them when they were swimming in the underground cave. I wasn't worried about Hulk and the other guy of course, because they were Navy Seals, but I was worried about the girl. Fortunately they came up right in the bottom of the boat.
I haven't gotten around to watching TiP 2 or 3 yet.
But I'm in Korea, and there is a huge selection of these "throw away" movies at video stores. Old made for TV and regular budget action movies are very popular here, so they are in abundant supply. Thunder was a gem to find.
It's kinda a good thing that no1s lookign to do remakes of this, because judging by the standards of recent hollywood remakes (Rollerball, Thunderbirds, anyone? thought not) it would really suck... sure the CGI would be much improved but otherwise... it would probably be written by people who have never seen the original and only have a very basic idea of what its about too.
To the original poster about the question where is Thunder. They used to keep the boat out on the backlot tour at Walt Disney Worlds MGM Studios in Florida however I go to Disney at least 2 times a year and it has not been out for at least 2 or 3 years now. They usually rotate the props out every couple of years so it is most likely in storage at MGM Studios now.
On the back lot of MGM...hmm....I think a raid on the studio is in order to resurect the boat. I wonder if Chris Lemmon or Hulk Hogan would help me drive it.
