I was watching a few shows set in the past lately and I noticed Laura looks alot like the maidens popularity used in the 90s. I know in the book that Nadine was an older woman and I think they might have chosen her as she represents a renaissance maiden awaiting her true love.

I wonder if in some ways the casting agency picked Laura as they may have liked the star power behind her name, thought her acting was decent enough and had the look popular for damsels in distress at the time.
