Am I The Only One

Am I the only one that like this movie. I really like the opening theme and Jean Smart's character. Although Jean Smart is from Connecticuit, she is very believable as a southern woman.

I liked it, too. I didn't try to hold it up against GWTW. I wouldn't mind seeing a remake just because I love period/historical type movies.

I'm with you. I'm not a huge fan of this one (although I tolerate it whenever I see it on) but I would be all for a remake that stays close to the novel. I would love to see someone like Catherine Zeta-Jones in the Scarlett role (she's the only modern actress I can think of who has the looks and acting ability to come close to Vivien Leigh).

reply

Hmmm but isn't Catherine Zeta Jones is all wrong for the role? She's dark and almost Asian-looking with her thin mouth and tiny eyes. Not exactly Scarlett material. In my opinion, no one can beat Vivian Leigh. Although I have to admit, if they were holding auditions, I'd try out :p

Fiddle-dee-dee!

I like it too.

Yes, it's true! IMDB has reached Sweden!

Jean is actually from Seattle,Washington, not Connecticut.

reply

No, I love it too, but BECAUSE of how awful and trashy it is, not in spite of it.

The first time I saw Gone with the Wind was when I was 8...so I grew up Loving the film...and Scarlett...Vivien's Scarlett. So I thought this mini series was awful...especially the actress they picked for Scarlett. SO disappointing.

There was NO chemistry between her and Timothy Dalton... partly because she was SO bland to begin with.

I myself always thought Catherine Zeta Jones would have been the Perfect choice for Scarlett! She had the beauty... and definitely a more passionate personality.

Around the same time this Scarlett mini-series came out...so did the much better Hallmark tv movie..."the Return of the Native"... starring Catherine as the high spirited lead in the story...

Also starring Clive Owen...You should check it out. :)

No, I LOVE IT! I'm watching it even as I type!!

I thought this mini series was very entertaining.

No, I like it too, I don't compare it to GWTW at all. I looked for it on DVD high and low for about ten years. :) Now that I have it, it has become a favorite on snowy weekend days.

I thought it started out quite well but fell apart when it moved to Ireland and became very melodramatic. Sean Bean's character was ludicrously over the top. The great thing about Gone With the Wind is that the characters were so believable, but there's nothing believable about him.
