Underrated Series

This is one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi shows ever. This series wasn't as brutal as movies but I didn't need it. I loved the story and Lisa Madigan was so cute. This series should have lasted much longer

I'm just re-watching the boxset at the moment...

I have to say, while I disliked the 'cheesy' aspects of the tv series, and how it was toned down for kids, I always still enjoyed it because somehow its heart was in the right place with regards to the character. On the surface, it's not a great continuation of Robocop. Under the surface, it's probably the best follow on from the original film.

I always thought it was a shame that Robocop 2 and everything after (including the series) kept Murphy very 'robotic'. By the end of the first film, he had returned very much to being Murphy (if only in personality, since he'd lost so many memories). Richard Eden was good, but his movements and voice were still too machine-like. Robo also spent far too much time being cumbersome and getting knocked on his back as well.

A remake series would be great. Modern TV budgets and effects would be capable of doing it justice now (imagine a Robocop series with the series tone and quality of HBO's Rome or Game of Thrones). You could keep a lot of the story lines and scripts, with only the removal of some of the cheesier elements and improving some of the dramatic elements.

I also really liked the character of Diana. She made a great non-silly companion for Murphy. Especially when they established that the engineer character could go into a virtual world and interact with her. I imagine that if a 2nd series had been made, Murphy would've been able to plug in and be 'himself' in the virtual world with her, making it another nice step in his continuing rediscovery of his humanity.
