He says that he hopes you enjoyed Episode 2, that you probably found it depressing and predictable. If your life is like that, enjoy the familiar. If it isn't, enjoy the change. And so on. He also speaks some witty verse about the characters: Mrs. Drusse as a Mrs. Marple-like sleuth....

At the end of Episode 5 there is more of the same, ending with "You must take the good [hand gesture] with the evil [hand gesture]."

"Build my gallows high, baby."

reply

what do you mean by episode 5?

"Riget" is only in 4 episodes! Or do you mean the first episode in "Riget 2"???

reply

I think riget is split up into different numbers of episodes; dependent on the release.

reply

The show "Riget" consists of 8 episodes divided into two groups: Riget 1 (episodes 1-4) and Riget 2 (episodes 5-8)

reply

He doesn't really add anything to the plot, he just comments enigmatically on the episodes... He ends every "speech" with two hand-gestures; A cross and the devils symbol.

I was shocked at how cheesy his appearance is. He acts like a low-brow promoter.

I was annoyed by the show.
- Standard "Ghost needs closure" crap
- TV pacing / everything is delayed, because what little it has to offer is stretched out as long as possible. The usual TV strategy of stringing viewers along is not what I would turn to von Trier for.

This is the guy who made Zentropa?

reply

This is why, even though Tier has done nothing but crap after this, Tier still deserves the outmost respect.
Brilliant show, I am sorry you do not like it.

reply

Well--I like "Dancer in the Dark". Still he deserves a huge amount of respect just for doing this. It's certainly unique! I saw it at a revival theatre years ago. They showed it straight through (about 4 solid hours) with no break and the audience didn't leave their seats once. At the end they were laughing and applauding like crazy:)
