Another series at same time as ocean girl

Ocean Girl was a great show, but I'm actually trying to find out the name of another show that was aired on the Disney Channel around the same as they showed Ocean Girl (ca. 1994). It was a show about kids in Australia who discovered a parallel world that they got to I think because of some electric wire malfunction. THe kids who went to the other world were a boy and his two friends, a boy and a girl. In one episode, a sorcerer in the parallel world sent a ball of electricity at the main character, but he wasn't "shocked" because he was wearing rubber-soled tennis shoes. In another episode, two of the parallel world people cross over into our world, and the girl tells the evel sorceress that cars are animals that will eat her. THis show didn't last long, but it really bugs me that i can't remember the name of it

The show you guys are looking for is "Spellbinder". I used to watch both of them. Very good shows. I remember after they ended the season of Ocean Girl, I was pretty mad when I found out that Spellbinder would be on at the same time and replacing it, but then I ended up liking Spellbinder even more. Eventually Ocean Girl came back on air with new episodes though.

I wish both series would be put out on DVD damnit! lol I enjoyed them both. And they could've gone on for another couple years with Spellbinder! lol

reply

Yeah, it would be great if you could purchase this show in some form (as well as Spellbinder), because I really want to see them again. I doubt they'll ever be released though.

there was a series on in the mid 90s and I think it was Australian made. It was about a boy that fell from a tree house, hits his head and goes into a coma. The series is about the story that is playing in his head. Sound familiar to anyone?

"Right... Where are we going?"

I believe the series you were referring to was The Odyssey.

Ocean Girl and Spellbinder were actually very good shows, when you see the sort of drivel that Australian kids TV puts out these days - Cybergirl for instance, its just buzzword poorly written rubbish. Spellbinder for example had good backstory - like the main character mucking up in science class making gunpowder etc. and blowing up the lab sink, and later makes it in the other world. Ocean Girl was awesome in that you actually had these kids in the water, scuba diving, good CG work for the time - and not being over the top, it was science fiction but had that plausible feel to it, not like some girl with bluelipstick who comes out of a computer or whatever.
Ship to Shore was pretty good too, but not in the same league

Both are now available, only in Pal format, but I say buy them anyway and just play them on your computer. where there's a will there's a way!

I used to love this show and spellbinder! i wish they'd release these on dvd!

I really doubt they will ever come out on DVD but we can make an effort. There's a website www.tvshowsondvd.com and you can go there and vote for the shows that you want on dvd.

The connection to Spellbinder and Ocean Girl, though this may be totally obvious, is that Lauren Hewett (Mera) starred as Kathy in the second season of Spellbinder. Spellbinder 2:Land of the Dragon Lord (as season two is referred to as by some SB fans) filmed at the same time as Ocean Girl's third season. This caused filming conflicts for Lauren and that is why Mera doesn't show up much in the third season of OG.

Another possible connection of sorts to another series I noticed when I started watching *My So-Called Life* and decided that the mother looked just like Dr. Dianne Bates (Kerry Armstrong). The mom on MSCL is Bess Armstrong.

They look like they could be twins, though perhaps they are cousins at most, considering the difference in location listed here for births and bios. ...But it's always bugged me.

Ok ive got another 90s kids program-

The only scene I really remember was that there were these two twin women (with ginger hair I think), who were the bad guys or bad guys henchwomen, who were pretending to be window cleaners but were listening into a board meeting.

Sorry I cant remember much more, my guesses are that it was either one of those Australian import shows or perhaps The Demon Headmaster. Anyone know what Im talking about???

Check out The Girl From Tomorrow if Your a fan of these programs, the first series is all on Youtube.

That show with the twins was The Tommorrow People and there were australians, Americans and English people in it... there were 3 or 4 series and the first was good but the rest went kinda downhill in my opinion.

THE NAME IS SPELLBINDER... the power suits were nice.

reply

I have to agree with you! those were some awesome suits on that show, does anyone know if theres copies of the series floating around somewhere?

Spellbinders

I'm also looking for a 90's kids show....it featured a girl who got involved with some kind of nuclear waste which was dropped of a truck. And this gave her some extraordinary abilities...like she could for example turn herself into water... and she could move things without touching them.

You're thinking of "The Secret World of Alex Mack."
