Overraterd!(spoilers)

The series had just 19 episodes and the discussion ,the stars and the fact that it had 19 episodes ..made me think that it must be something really substatial and worthy.

i personally was dissapointed.

In the last episode the abrupt ending wasnot as legendary as described. It was just a weakness of the makers.Atleast they could do was to give it such an ending which had some weight.I mean many others episode of the same series had better ending:
like when jordan and Angela were together.

well its my opinion..whats your say?

I could be wrong but I don't think they knew the show was finished with that last episode.

For me, part of the allure was that the show was ended pretty open ended.

All of the other eps were ended with a cliffhanger that was not openly discussed in the following ep like when Ricki moves to mr kitimpskis, the next ep moves on to another story line and briefly acknowledges rickis new life. We don't get the crying discussion between him, the teacher, and the teachers partner that they were meant for each other, all being gay.

It was a little more subtle than that because that's how it was when I was that age, Angela's teen years coincided with mine. Not everything is going to be hashed out.

Angela may never have hooked up with Jordan or brain, the next season may have started in a totally foreign spot for her because thats my so called life. We fans can't ever take anything for granted because nothing turned out how we thought it would. That's what made the show avante garde, or in simpler terms, great.

Ymmv of course.

You don't have the background to the story.

If you had done any research you'd know the show was expected to return but was cancelled. That's why the ending doesnt necessarily feel like an "ending".

And that final scene where we saw that Angela FINALLY realised that Brian had feelings for her makes a lot of us question what could have been.

The thing about this show wasn't the love story - it was the fact that it was the first teen drama of it's kind.

Before it, there was Beverly Hills 90210, which painted teens as wealthy and much more mature than really was the case.

MSCL portrayed teens in a closer-to-reality way. Apparently people thought it was boring because of this, but over time (and being shown continuously on MTV for years) the show garnered a cult following.

It opened new doors for teen tv shows like Freaks & Geeks and even shows like Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill (to some extent).

The dialogue was smart, the way it was filmed looked natural, and the acting superb (Claire Danes was amazing).

That's my opinion. I don't judge a show just on the love story. As a whole picture, this show was way before it's time. It was honest.

Yes! This show was more than a love story or teen drama. It was life. As an adult I really appreciate graham and pattys relationship shown away from Angela. We get Angela's commentary but there are many moments where she isn't present and we get to see how two people deal with their relationship turning into a comfortable old shoe. To me, any love stories in the show are secondary to the nitty gritty facts that make life real. It's been almost 20 years and the show is still perfection.

Overrated? Not to me. Great show that I can watch over and over. That's just a personal preference. It did end abruptly but it's because they didn't know it was going to be cancelled at that time.
