I don't see it

I watched it with my girlfriend since she felt a bit nostalgic (and had a crush on Jared Leto when the show ran 😀). I watched a bunch of teen shows when I was in my teens, some better than others, but this must be one of the dumbest. These kids are just so annoying... The most realistic characters were the ones who had only a few lines from time to time.

To each their own. I loved the show.

I thought the character, Angela, was portrayed spot-on.
I knew lots of teen girls who were just as insecure and embarrassed by their parents.

If you consider this to be one of the dumbest teen shows you have ever seen then I would LOVE to know which teen shows you watched that you consider to be not dumb. 

I was in high school when this show originally aired and to this day it has remained the single most realistic portrayal of teen angst, emotions, drama, feelings (ridiculous ones included) and thoughts that I have ever seen.

I totally agree that some of the kids were annoying--when I was in high school and this show aired, I thought Angela was right about everything and I felt like whoever wrote the show totally understood what I felt like. As an adult I want to slap her and I cringe at some of her whining and over the top reactions to silly things.

It's kind of fun to now experience such a genuinely different perspective and take on the EXACT same thing I witnessed and felt so differently about as a teen.

Annoying or not, I felt that most of this was exactly right and a really accurate reflection of teenage life (for me anyway) at that point in time. I felt back then, and still do now, that the realistic vibe of the show was part of its downfall. People don't always want to tune in to TV to see realism--it's depressing. Especially a show like this, which really was a downer.

well said.

watching this show really answered some questions I've had about life.

this show is exactly how I look back on the early 90's.

school
girls
uncertainty
conflict
self doubt
the music and hairstyles.

for me, it's one of the best shows ever made.
even if I only stated watching it a couple of years ago - I completely disregarded it when it was on TV at the time- too much like my life back then.
