So bad it was good...

Like the Jerry Seinfeld episode, I watched Melrose Place (could not stand 90210) with a couple of friends, but would never admit it in public. Then this show came on. I was hooked from the first episode. Really bad writing, really bad acting, awful in nearly every way - so bad, in fact, that we laughed hysterically through every episode. Did anyone else watch it like this? I thought of it as a great comedy, especially since it was not trying to be one. It was like Soap, only without the self-aware irony. It still makes me laugh to think of Emma Samms saying, "I'll sqouish you like a bug." (she said squash in such a funny way!).

The thing is, these shows knew that they weren't meant to be taken seriously. Well, at least Melrose Place, but something tells me the same was true about Models Inc. I just found all the episodes online last night and started reliving 1994. Haha. But it seems to be cheesy on purpose. And even when it was on TV back in the day I remember it was cheesy back then. But deliciously so.

Was there any other way to watch it? I was 12 at the time and even then I understood it was ridiculous. I think the creators did as well, especially when they brought in Emma Samms.

As for Melrose Place, I watched that from episode 1 and liked it. It got better when Heather Locklear came in, but at the end of season 2 every character had become incredibly pathetic and even for a show like that there was just too little logic. The changes were just too drastic. For me the show ended when Kimberly blew the place up.

I also loved 90210, until Shannon Doherty left, I just didn't care anymore after that.
