waited 6 hours for that?

Just took this out of the library to watch and loved it, but...did anyone else think that kiss at the end between Dorthea and Will was completely lame? I thought there would be some grand snogging (especially since I'd be surprised if her previous marriage was even consumated), like Aragorn and Arwen, but this...blah. Did the actors hate each other??

I saw it for the first time last week & also loved it. I wasn't expecting "grand snogging" cos you don't tend to get that in period drama, so I can't say I was disappointed in the kiss. If you ask me, the looks exchanged between them more than made up for it. Like you, I kind of got the feeling that Dorothea's marriage might not have been consummated, so she's completely pure & innocent, probably unsure of herself. Still, I bet you with Will to teach her it would have definitely got better, lucky thing!

I remembered that I didn't like the scene either. But after seeing this fiasco last week http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844330/board/thread/90113661?p=1 I took another look at Dorothea and Will and while not perfect, it was much better than I had remembered, at least in comparison to "Persuasion."

Shame on you gals for not thinking old Casaubon knew what he was doing. What made you think that? :)

Wow, it's been almost a year since this thread was started...anyhow...I was totally expecting a grand smooch in the end between Will and Dorothea especially since when Lytgate first kissed Rosie it was pretty intense. I guess that was actually the point, to show how different the two couples are, but given Ladislaw's character I was definitely expecting something.....less calm

I think he may have been in shock a bit--realizing that she wants him to kiss her and that he is actually welcome to do what he's wanted to do for a long time. What's frustrating to me about these period dramas (and even the books they are based on) is that we see very little to nothing of the people after they come together with a kiss or after they are married. Is no one able to write beyond that?

I think they should have done something like showing her leaving the house for good and then snuggling up to Will in the carriage. In other words, she could show that he is worth more than the house or money.

Or, maybe show them taking tea in their new small house but showing her contentment with him. I would love to see more of their life together and it didn't have to be risque!

Also, I wish they would have had Dorothea say she loved him to Will. It would have made it so much more romantic.

Oh well, maybe they will add these to the new ones coming out...

Ah, that's subtlety for you

You obviously have been fed on the wrong kind of (Hollywood?) diet.

I know what you mean about the ending. I liked the series and if I remember (I've read the book years ago) is very close to the original text. I hated Rosie as much this time as when I first read about her and I wanted to slap Dorothea as much as I did then Lol. Someone said that Casaubon was not fully explored as a character as he is in the book...and in the book, if I remember, Dorothea comes to realise how she misjudged him (and his superior intellect) and made a huge mistake in marrying him, before Will said that his scholarly pursuits were pointless (I think she understands that herself in the book). Also, Will's background story is better explained in the book and it is indeed a shame that after spending (wasting?) so much time showing Lydgate's and Rosie's relationship, they did not make the most of Dorothea's realisation of her feelings and the final meeting with Will.
I'll have to go back to my book to see if the final chapter describes their relationship a bit better.
