anime vs manga

I've only seen pictures, but why does everyone have funky-colored hair now? Miki has brown hair, (ebil) Arimi has dark blue hair, Rokutanda has purple hair... Augh! It's weird!! (I *heart* Ginta) Anyone else been wondering bout this?

Wataru Yoshizumi, the author of the manga, said she was put off by the hair color as well. She didn't think unnatural colors like green and purple looked good, but she decided to leave the anime up to the production studio. She had very little to do with the anime, and the last 25 or so episodes of the anime have pretty much nothing to do with the manga.

To quote the review from THEManime.org:

"At about episode fifty or so, the action is split between the regular cast in Tokyo, and a new cast in, of all places, New York.

There's two massive problems with this situation - firstly, this is an all-new storyline not in the manga. The anime was originally only supposed to run for 52 episodes, and NOT 76, so the animation staff had to scramble to get these scripts out for production.

But the real problem is that the scriptwriters apparently know absolutely nothing about the United States (and New York in particular) outside of notes they apparently took while watching Grease, West Side Story, and Beach Blanket Bingo. The effect is amazingly tawdry, with oddities like California surf scenes and parasailing during spring break on Long Island (!), sprawling parklands on the Jersey Shore (!!), and Miki running from knife-wielding thugs in Harlem, having walked all the way there from JFK (!!!)."

All that said, the anime is still pretty decent. I have not yet gotten to the third season(only the first two box sets are currently out), but so far it is good. I like the manga better, but no anime ever really lives up to its manga counterpart.

I dont really like the idea of the tv series....... the manga's were amazing tho.

You can't compare the manga with the anime. The manga has its strengths and weaknesses, but I agree the subplot after episode 50 is kinda hard to digest, esp. here in the US. I did, however, loved the 40 episodes I've had since 1995. Theme song is kinda catchy too...

Yeah it bothered me to.
Although Miki's hair is more of a reddish brown.
It's really gross.

Even though there is an entirely new plot in the last season, with Yuu going to NYC and all, I still liked the anime. Atleast they asked the manga artist to design the new characters.
I think they did a good job with the characters, although the constand drama of a girl going after Yuu and someone else going after Miki gets a bit annoying and repetative, but it does make you REALLY want them to get back together durig the 1 out of 2 times they break up (even though they only break up once in the manga).

I love both, the aime and the manga just the same.
