Why are the home releases edited?

In a few very early episodes, there were little animated cutaways that would explain concepts. They were called "an observation of a demonstration" or something. They fuctioned similar to the kids' reports in the books. I distinctly remember it in the Haunted House episode. But after the original airing in 1994, all subsequent reruns and official home releases have edited them out.

I just watched the episode on Netflix and it was cut. I know the VHS was cut. I think the Complete Series box set is as well. Does anyone know why they won't release the full complete episodes as originally aired??
