Oh Come On, Heaven and Hell is watchable plus a bit

I see how many people are so upset at this installment of the movie. And yes they took some creative license. But what movie(s) based on books don't.. I think the acting was plenty good enough. Enough of the old characters were around to give it much more than just a small feel of the orignal book 1 and 2. I am most the way through the first dvd of book 3 heaven and hell. I AM SO GLAD I did not listen to the nay sayers. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the first dvd and looking forward to another 3 hours of entertainent like this that is rather hard to find in any decade..

For people that like and or love this series. I recomend you check out Centennial. The book written by James Mishner and the mini-series is like 12 segments long. But I will say that parts 12a and b. really are terrible. I hate to say skip anything because so much of it is relative. But I did fast forward through 90% of the last episodes of that series..

Also.. In to the West was good..

Give this movie a chance if you liked the first ones, just remember there was a war and things changed, the nation changed, people changed, people went west, some people remained stupid, and some remained honorable, and some remained vile and others paid dearly for things they really shouldn't have had too...

I will update with my opinion after viewing the entire Book 3-heaven and hell

Okay. I finished the entire series book 1, book 2, book 3..

I am really surprised at how low of reviews this last installment has gotten. I watched them all pretty much back to back so maybe that helps. I realize that book 3 came out apparently a few years after the others had been made. So many of the people that came back to watch Book 3 had the other main characters in their minds and figured thats what the 3rd entry was going to be about.

I will say this, the movie in book 1 and 2 graduated through characters anyway. So by book 3, some characters had grown out of the storyline to an extent.

But in my opinion book 3 in Video was better than so many mini-series I have seen in my life. It kept enough of the main characters that mattered so it felt like an extension of the same families, trials and problems.

I really did not see any appreciable lack of directing or writing or acting in Heaven and Hell. I rather enjoyed it and was so very glad I didn't let all of the nay saying talk me out of it..

I give the first two mini-series for book 1 and 2 a 9 out of 10.. and Heaven and hell 8 1/2.. Relax into it and get out of the hurry up mode that it seems most movies are made like nowadays and enjoy a movie that has a very nice pace and characters you care about.. Don't listen to the naysayers, and don't fastforward through the movie. You will be missing an enjoyable journey..

SPOILER::: one commentor knocking the movie with a bunch of simplistic statments on imdb said what the heck, why did those two end up in love with each other so fast. Well that tells me they didn't watch this movie. they fast forwarded too much.. Because while one was helping the other the relationship sparked. And to me, with all of the heartache and suffering that these "good hearted and moral people" had suffered it was only right things ended up like they did..

I agree with you. Do not listen to the nay-sayers. Perhaps people are upset about characters dying, and actors not coming back or being replaces, but the third series is really worth watching!

I agree. It doesn't hold a candle to the first two, but it was entertaining to watch and you still get into the lives of the characters.
I believe my favorite two miniseries are Lonesome Dove and North and South. I don't like one better than the other. In my opinion, they are both excellent.
