Anyone have any 'behind the scenes' info?

Does anyone have any background information on this show? Ever since watching the DVD set, I’ve had several questions regarding the show, such as: 1). Who came up with the idea for this show (and was it inspired by Michael Mann’s “Last of the Mohicans” movie?). 2). Why was the show only shown in syndication? 3). Why did it only last one season? If anyone knows, or has any background, “making-of” material, I would very interested in hearing it. Thanks.
