SERIES NOT A SPIN OFF....

The revisionist view of Michael Mann and his crappy version with Daniel Day Lewis in no way reflects the series HAWKEYE. HAWKEYE is an continuation of the Cooper novel LAST OF THE MOHICANS by simple virtue of the fact the series uses Hawkeye's real name of Natty Bumppo and not Mann's ridiculous "Nathaniel Hawthrone". The series also covers another period in Natty's rather long life. The series is WAY more justified then Mann's pathetic film.

Hawkeye's name in the movie was actually Nathaniel Poe

I stand corrected....

NickKitt, you feel this version is more realistic? I'd be interested in your perspective. I don't remember that much of "The Last of the Mohicans," other than the fact that I wasn't wild about it, but I thought it was mostly because I'm not terribly fond of Daniel Day Lewis.

Let me correct myself. The series is not a continuation of THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS but rather a prequel and showing another aspect to Natty Bumpo's long and varied life. But Mann's version is terrible. I recommend the six hour mini-series done on MASTERPIECE THEATER of MOHICAN back in the seventies and available on DVD.

Thanks for the recommendation. There are a couple of versions from the seventies. I did some research, and this seems to be the Masterpiece Theatre version:

It's on my list now. Masterpiece Theatre rarely gets it wrong.
